Re: Pondering Erdnase

I believe one of Scarne's books, ("On Cards" or "Complete Guide") said there is a point in a Faro game, where the bet is 50/50 with no percentage for anyone..that point/card in the game has a name, and that is when the Union Plaza charged it's 5% vig. I agree with Jason in that w...

Re: Pondering Erdnase

On a Faro history note, I remember in the 1970's, The Union Plaza Hotel had what they said,(Correctly) was the only remaining Faro game in Las Vegas. It was in/next to the poker room and charged a 5% vig on the bets where there was no percentage for the house. It seemed mostly oldtimers played it wh...

Re: Moon Landing Anniversary

Editorial Cartoon, the day after the landing, showing the moon in the sky with the poignant caption, "It will never look the same again." This is a social not a political statement: I remember the watching the TV with family and friends and some of the older folks observing it with incredu...

Re: CASINO, JOHNNY HICKS ET AL

As a connection to an earlier historical link in gambling history, I remember a box man at The Golden Gate Club, (great tuna fish casserole on Fridays) who told me he learned the business, in the casinos that operated, (illegally, but permitted) in Gulfport and Biloxi. Many service men, from the nea...

Re: CASINO, JOHNNY HICKS ET AL

Hi Steve, most of those I knew who went to high school in Vegas, went to Valley or Rancho.

Do you remember Alam Bramlet, head of the culinary union, who ended up in the desert?

Re: CASINO, JOHNNY HICKS ET AL

Hi Geno, Did the California Club later become The Gambler's Hall of Fame? That corner changed more names/owners/managers than I can remember. Do you remember: Irving, who ran The Ace Loan Company on Fremont Street? Jasper, at The Leaning Tower? Allen Glick? (Was he the person played by Alan King in ...
