Re: eBooks: The Transition REALLY Begins

I'm all for feeling, I think it's been around longer than the thinking aspect of our brains (which we are just beginning to explore/exploit). There's still a lot of truth to "trusting your gut." Where does the mind stop and the rest of the world begin? What is it like to be a bat?

Re: Originality vs. Novelty

"All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event in the living act, the undoubted deed there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the priso...

Re: 2/2 : Nova Science Now: Magic & The Brain

In regards to the Chaplin mask: What if you really do see the concave nature of the mask when it comes around and looks straight at you?

Re: 2/2 : Nova Science Now: Magic & The Brain

In regards to top-down knowledge I think initial conditioning needs to be set in the minds of the lay(wo)men who may not see a whole lot of magic in his/her lifetime. The mind does indeed fill in and interpret most of the gaps that the brain does not register (due to prior knowledge & experience...

Re: Performing the Multiplying Bottles.

At the start, there's some verbal motivation without action . Try and see if you can act first, and motivate later - sometimes that gives a better and more dramatic flow . Nice reactions from the crowd. Just to add to Tom's remark above, trying reacting to the appearances of the bottles and see how...

Re: Today is Harry Lorayne's Birthday!

You forgot Houdini, and Riser, and Blackstone Sr. & Jr., and Stanley.

You need to re-read Harrys memory books again.

Happy Birthday!

Re: Naughty Swedish Boy

In all seriousness, I think having collaborators in the magic community is a real asset. By doing what he did on tv, he is only diminishing his pool of collective help when he does (if ever) finally come up with something of his own. He won't have the support from the community and fleshing-out idea...

"Maybe now he'll notice me."

Steve Martin, The Zig-Zag Woman (1996)

LOL. I love these sorts of things. It's like a bunch of little boys wanting and seeking attention. It's so sexy. LOL.

Re: ¡Juan Tamariz!

Theres a very brief, bare-bones explanation of Juan Tamarizs double crossing the gaze switch (with pictures of the hand-to-hand transfer) in Jon Allens free e-book preview from Vanishing Inc. for those of you interested in a quick online reference. It can be found under the title trick, Citizen Cane...

Re: Erdnase 1902 Playing Cards from Conjuring Arts!

Nice back design.

They sort of remind me of Donald Sultan's Playing Cards & the book that showcased them back in the early 90s.

Re: Comic_Magician_Spy

The routine I was referring to in the original post was on a 1986 HBO Special, a collaboration Joel did with ...

Comic_Magician_Spy

I just had a chance to revisit the November 1996 Issue of Genii Magazine with Joel Hodgson as the cover story. For many magicians Joel isnt a household name, perhaps more better known for his creation of Mystery Science Theater 3000 . While not necessarily considered a magician in the conventional t...

If you enjoy Steinmeyer (and I believe thats just about everyone in the magic community), then you should enjoy the following two links. The first is a book review of The Master of Disguise: My Secret Life in the CIA by Antonio Mendez. The second link is an actual excerpt from the book in which Mend...

I recently came across a lengthy talk with Michael Weber that may or may not already be posted somewhere here on the forum.
