Get a free copy of the 2012 US Magician Salary Survey

Hi Guys - In the corporate world, websites like glassdoor.com or monster.com provide salary ranges by profession and location. For our magic market, there isn't an index or any market research that indicates the average rate for specific magic markets. My goal is to fix that and provide a resource f...

The Open Bobo Project was started by Malcolm Kavalsky in 2005. The idea to establish a community where magicians shared their interpretations, demonstrations, and variations of the tricks found in Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. After discussing the project's status with Malcolm, he supported the idea of ...

Re: Ring on Wand

Mr. E made a good comment regarding the Ring on Wand.

What is your reason for having a ring on a wand to begin with? Unless there is a reason for you to carry a ring and a wand with you...the presentation is kind of boring....

Re: Directors Help?

Hi Pete - I agree there is a difference between the hobbyist and the professional performer. However, that shouldn't be an excuse for a lack of quality entertainment. I empathize for the audiences that sit through some of these performances. I read about how a hobbyist performs for the same audience...

Re: Directors Help?

Thinair - Thanks for the feedback. I visited the sight and found the Why a Director article informative. To date, I've only found one source that successfully combines magic with the elements of acting, character, premise, and drama. It is a rare find for someone to have both skills as a talented ma...

John Cornelious Card System vs. Nikola vs. Ireland Card System

I recently started reading about different card systems and memorized decks. How flexible is the John Cornelius Card System compared to the Nikola or the Ireland Card System? For example, if the Cornelius Card System is based on a card's position rather than the value, how can it accomplish an Estim...

Re: Directors Help?

What instructions would you give to a non - magician director so that you can use their skills to the greatest effect? Instead of asking a director / writer to fit a trick with premise and a plot, I'd approach it from the opposite angle. What premise / plot is interesting to the audience? By applyi...

Re: Good Buys

Hi All - If you're looking for some great buys, let me suggest Ron Bauer's Private Study Series. Each effect is ONLY $10.00 and the lessons in the series are invaluable. (Can you remember the last time you were able to buy GREAT magic for only $10.00) If you're tired of all the same-old-same-old &qu...

Re: Ron Bauer

No problem Rick. Often in these forums it is difficult to understand the context behind the words since we're writing...and not talking. The point of these forums is to hopefully invoke thoughtful discussions that may push people out of their comfort zones. Do you see the same trend in magic where p...

Re: Ron Bauer

Green... Here is the answer to your plea for help. I'm not attacking you! If you insight an "argument" (which can be defined as one or more reasons put forward in support of an opposing point of view), you shouldn't be offended if your target defends himself. Read my response again. I only...

Hi Rick Since you brought it up, I will give you the courtesy of a reply... After reading your email very carefully, I came to the conclusion that you didn't really understand what I was getting at. I'm not trying to talk you into anything, nor criticize whatever it is you choose to do with your per...

Hi Bill - I've got some additional information regarding these two effects: Originally posted by Bill Duncan: I've heard some good things about Mr. Bauer over the years but I've never seen him work. How does his "Gypsy Curse" or "Hornswoggled" improve the standard handlings? Or i...

Re: Ron Bauer

Hi all - I am a HUGE fan of the Private Study series. What I like about the series is it shows you how to get GREAT reactions consistently. The RBPS (RB Private Studies) shows you how to be entertaining from a theatre perspective rather than a show and tell perspective. I haven't found ANYTHING else...
