Re: iGenii problem

Fixed.

I downloaded iGenii again. All is good! The new interface looks great too. Looking forward to delving into the deep past. Thanks for giving us access to so much great material, Richard.

iGenii problem

When I launch iGenii on my iPad, it begins "Maximizing Available Space" but stops and locks up at 72%. There is plenty of space available on the pad. Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?

Re: Digital edition iOS update

Thanks for the quick reply Richard. I found my iGenii name and password. Sorry for the false alarm. I love reading on my iPad and I very much appreciate that my subscription to Genii gives me free access to the back issues. Kudos to you for that!

Re: Digital edition iOS update

I deleted and reloaded iGenii and I now see all the mags. I try to sign in using the same name and password that I use for this forum, but I am not recognized. Is there a different name and password needed for the app?

Re: Moving Pips

Didn't Mike Ammar have an item where an ace of diamonds becomes a 3 of diamonds with visual moving pips?? There's also the floating diamond effect which resembles Cosmosis. The center pip of the ace of diamonds floats up above the card and then back down. Also, I believe it was Rocco who had an item...

I finally posted the photos from this years FFFF (Fechters Finger Flicking Frolic) Convention. This was one of the finest FFFFs ever. There were many fantastic first timers. I sorted through over 1000 photos from Dale Farris, Maria Schwieter and myself. They are organized by show and include sets of...

Re: Jerry's Nuggets cards on ebay

Hi Chris,

It was actually $153 for two decks. But $75 for one deck is wild. I've got a few of these decks and I'd rather have the $$ to buy books and dvds than the decks. The bidding on my decks is at $36 (for both) with a day and half to go. We'll see if there's any bidding wars at the end.

Jerry's Nuggets cards on ebay

Recently two new decks, one red and one blue, of Jerry's Nuggets cards went for over $150 on ebay. I've got two decks listed now with the high bid of only $35 for both. Get 'em while they're hot if you want two decks of these very hard to find cards.

Re: BEST PALM EVER!

Too bad everyone knows they're about to watch a palm. It would have been interesting to have the palming sequence be part of a larger series of actions, which was then followed by a series of questions to magicians about what had happened. I'll bet that no one would have detected the palm.

Re: World Magic Seminar Dealers Room SOLD OUT?

Don't forget the dealers' point of view. There's only so much money to be spread around. I've been a dealer at conventions where they've allowed too many dealers. It may have been fun for the attendees but the dealers came up short. There's a balance, and that's what the organizers should shoot for....

Re: Asimov card trivia

Hi WarlockDrummer, I got 1.446 x 10^43 dollars for $1 at 5% compounded quarterly for 2000 years. The formula is FV = P(1+r)^n. Here P is 1 (dollar), r = .05/4 = .0125 (the quarterly rate) and n is 8000 since there would be 8000 quarters in 2000 years. My calculator gives me the number above from 1.0...

Re: Asimov card trivia

Lets get this right. As stated above, there are 52 factorial (52!) possible ways to arrange a deck. This is because there are 52 possible cards for the 1st position; 51 possible for the 2nd position etc. This comes out to 52x51x50x49x.x3x2x1 possible arrangements. That comes out to be 8.0658 x 10^67...

If the download is the exact wording of the original, the pirate could have trouble. However, if it is his/her "expression" of the idea, it's legal as far as I know. I don't think anyone can get in trouble as long as the effect is re-written in the "pirate's" words. I wonder if t...

Re: Great math trick

Just as a mathematical aside - The reason that 9 is cool is that we have a base 10 system. If we had a base 16 system, like computers folks use, the magic number would be 15. It's always 1 less than base of the number system. Ultimately the reason for these properties is that 10 MOD 9 = 1 and thus 1...

Re: Swindle Cut Aces

Harkey's item is called "Clear Cut." It is, as he states, loosely based on Cyprian's "Swindle Cut Aces." In the Harkey version, however, the spectator cuts the aces into four piles. You then show that each pile has an ace on top. As Doug Conn mentioned, Harkey's item begins with ...

I would be worried about using a metal pick since it might damage the quarter. Perhaps a toothpick will get the job done.

I wonder if putting some sort of lubrication on the new band would prevent it from adhering to the quarter when you replace it later??

Re: Spectator Cuts To The Aces

As far as I know, Allan Ackerman invented the methodology used by Wakeman and Malone. His effect appears in his Magic Mafia Effects book. I think it's from the early 70's. Hi Dale,

I have some home video of Jim Ryan showing the "Perfect 10" puzzle to Dai Vernon at the Midwest Magic Jubilee in the early '80s. Jim used coins and had spectators toss new coins in. He'd make a move and then count. There were always 10 coins in each row. Cool puzzle.
