Re: Dining -- and not -- at the Magic Castle

I ate there last week, also alone. The staff was wonderful and didn't blink at the request for a table for one...they were very attentive, almost as though I was the sole diner in the room. It made for a very enjoyable, non-rushed dinner. If you arrive early but can't catch a show before your reserv...

Magic Castle question

I'm going to be in LA next week and of course plan on visiting the Castle. I'm not a member, but I believe I've heard that IBM members are allowed to visit with dinner reservations, and I have a quick question about reservations. I'm hoping to catch a few of the shows, but I'm not sure how to time t...

Re: travelling by plane

I strongly agree with David's recommendation of www.onebag.com. Doug Dyment, working closely with Redoxx.com, helped to create a carry-on bag called the "Airboss"...it is phenomenal. I travel frequently in my work as ...

Dustin,

I am an IBM member but didn't know that I might be allowed in because of it.

Los Angeles Must See?

I'll be in Los Angeles on business during the next week, and I was wondering if there were any "must see" performances I could catch? I'm not a member of the Castle, nor do I know anyone who is, so that's out.

I appreciate any suggestions...

Re: Cups and balls starting point

Thank you, gentlemen. I have "Stars" and forgot about Vernon's routine there. I don't have Elliott's book (although I do have some others of his), so I'll start looking around. Dustin, I appreciate the clarification about Ammar's book. I've glanced at it and also disliked the highlighting ...

Cups and balls starting point

I recently saw John Carney lecturing and was reminded how powerful the classics are, when properly presented. I'd like to start working on solid routine, and wonder if any of you can point me to a good, classic routine. I have Dai Vernon's Book of Magic, the Books of Wonder, as well as Tarbell. I re...

Re: Magic Christian magicana...month/year?

Thanks, Edwin!

Another member sent me MC's email address and I was able to ask him directly last night. He responded almost immediately, so now I'm watching eBay for these copies to come up.

What a great medium this is!!

I'm trying get a copy, but I don't know the date to begin looking for...

Re: Secret Ways of Al Baker

I also own the book, and can only say that I'm constantly amazed at the quality of content, and dumbfounded by the output of this genius. You could easily own just this book and not run out of material for years... Wonderfully produced, I might add. The only detraction is its huge size...as noted ab...

Re: Scott Guinn's DVD

Thanks Bill. Actually, I started working with Jay Scott Berry's Sanada variation after seeing him in a lecture wherein he showed, amongst other things, some spongeball work. I filed it away in my mind under "color change/vanish", completely ignoring the production factor that Scott uses to...

Whoops, I said "I only wish he had a great idea for the sponge balls..."

Well, he did...the Sanada.

Re: Scott Guinn's DVD

I'd like to comment, since I actually own this DVD. I bought it purely because I was interested in Scott's sponge ball routine. I'd heard many positive comments, and thought I'd do Scott the respectful thing of paying him money to see the his routine, rather than try to discern it from the many comm...

Re: Too many ads in Genii!

In my full-time field (IT), the trade magazine for my area of interest is at least, if not more than, 50% ads...but that's the way it is. How else do they support the mag? I'm guessing subscriptions don't support the magazine by themselves. I'd rather Richard do that then raise the subscription fee ...

Re: Scott Guinn's DVD

I think if a magician wasnt entertaining then they really wouldnt be working for very long. ] I disagree. I think you're assuming that a full-time pro must always be entertaining and wonderful. I used to live in a small Florida town (15,000 residents), home to an awful magician. Yet, he always seem...

Re: KY Family Witnesses the attack on Roy

According to reports, the tigers are never allowed into the audience area of the theater (even during rehersals), and therefore that's strange territory to them. They avoid it. When confused, they go to "safe areas" that they know, which in this case is backstage...exactly what the tiger d...

Re: Book of the Month: Fechter: The Magic of Eddie Fechter

Carl,

I sold my copy about 6 months ago on eBay for about $55, which surprised me (I thought it'd go for far more)...but now that I now a reprint is coming out, I'm not so concerned anymore..

Re: Silk to Egg

Two things: 1. Go to amazon and buy Lance's DVD...on it is his presentation for Silk-to-Egg 2. Search www.themagiccafe.com for this topic, a very good quality egg was recommended (and I agree, since I bought mine from them...cost about $15) on one of the threads, but for the life of me I can't remem...
