Something New

The Gold Standard This is something new for the holidays. I started work on it three years ago, and it has been manufactured from the ground up to my specs. It is a lovely thing: http://davidregal.com/the-gold-standard/ David

Regal Magic Loses it

Hi All - My mailing list company threw out my mailing list and my back-up doesn't exist (long story). No worries - it only took 10 years to build. My son has set up a form to subscribe. I only send out about 3 mails a year, and it's always a good deal. Please add yourself - I'm starting over! http:/...

Very few things make me happier than when someone adds his or her touch/creativity/interpretation to something I've put out there, and Ron Timmer's clever sequence will certainly be adopted by many. Nice, Ron.

CLARITY BOXES ARE BACK

I don't know if you noticed, but it has been impossible to buy Clarity Boxes on my site for a few weeks now. That is because I sold out. So, for a while I had to watch retailers sell the Clarity Box while I had zero. Ouch. BUT I HAVE MORE NOW. AND THERE'S A PRETTY GREAT COMBO DEAL ON MY SITE. Short ...

Re: The Clarity Box

I have sold out of my current stock.

Please go to Penguin Magic or Hocus-Pocus to purchase The Clarity Box - they will have it in stock shortly.

Thanks.

Re: The Clarity Box

I've been charging the actual cost of Priority International shipping to my overseas customers, but I'm soon going to match my competition and pay for a different method of shipping (so it will be free to purchasers, but slower) - that seems to be what people want. My son is on it - expect the chang...

Re: The Clarity Box

Here's the odd manner in which Clarity Box is rolling out: a) I have some - that's because the manufacturer got a number to me ahead of Magic Live. b) Soon Penguin and Hocus-Pocus will have them - they bought the initial run. c) A second run is in process - one of my goals is to get a quantity to th...

Re: The Clarity Box

Thanks, Pete. The early test box you saw may indeed have been made of polystyrene, but I eventually rejected that material as being too cheap-looking, and too cheap "feeling." The Clarity Boxes that are being manufactured are made of laser cut acrylic, about twice the weight of the cheaper...

The Clarity Box

No big sales pitch. This is a clear switching box, and to my mind the best thing I've ever put out as it is so useful. Totally customizable, made of heavy laser-cut acrylic. It can be a card in the box... a bill... a prediction, etc. Sold out at Magic Live, where I did it 100s of times inches from p...

Re: The Linking Finger Ring Project

I should say that I am not the only one with these sets - two stores now have a small supply as well, Hocus-Pocus and Penguin. I did not solicit any testimonials, but I am proud that this was posted by a real worker: Don't even bother with any other rings on the market---these are the very best. As ...

The Linking Finger Ring Project

The Linking Finger Ring plot, created by Persi Diaconis and Richard Himber, is simply one of the greatest tricks in magic. If you have not heard of the ring set I produced, it may be because I ran no ads and the entire first run (of 144 sets) sold out. I have in my possession the remains of a second...

Re: NY Times review of Alex Stone's FOOLING HOUDINI

And by the way, I once had a TV executive call me up and say: "David, I saw the most amazing card trick in the world and you have to tell me how it was done! This guy called a wizard on the telephone and the wizard told me the card I was thinking of!" It gets better. He started to elaborat...

Re: NY Times review of Alex Stone's FOOLING HOUDINI

I think judging a person's skill level and experiencing a performance are two different things, and no, I don't think a spectator needs to understand technique in order to appreciate mystery. It's an interesting question, though. It's like saying "One needs to understand music theory in order t...

Re: NY Times review of Alex Stone's FOOLING HOUDINI

I understand the outrage of Jamy Ian Swiss, Ricky Jay and others at the hubris and misinformed nature of Mr. Stone's comments. To me, however, the real matter is why we have the need to express outrage. If, for example, Mr. Stone studied with voice teachers for a year then claimed to be expert at si...

I know there will be disagreements about which Disposable Deck effect I have chosen as the winner of the $100 prize, because the fact is there is no best. I was honestly moved by some of the very clever thinking that went on. I loved how John Signa used Disposable Decks and a card box to transform a...

Re: SUDDEN DECK 3

Yes, Sudden Deck 3 combines the features of the original Sudden Deck and Sudden Deck 2. There are various handlings one can use for the "empty" display. Having done this effect for a long time, I have my own opinion about what makes the display effective: Air. That sensation of a light, ai...
