Re: Best source for in the hands out faro

I highly recommend Michael Closes's cd. I went from not really believing I could ever learn it--to complete confidence with the sleight. All as a result of Michael's cd.

Re: The Magic of Ascanio: The Structural Conception of Magic

I ordered the book from Hocus Pocus and it came yesterday in the mail.

The book is so good--I can't put it down.

Re: Question: Signed Complete Works of Derek Dingle

I just received a copy of the Dingle Commemorative edition of Genii (May 2004). I ordered it because I wanted to learn the Stuart Gordon double lift. I was shocked when I turned to page 44 and saw a picture of Derek Dingle signing my copy of his Complete Works--with my childhood buddy (Guillermo San...

Re: Good Business Books?

Some of my favorite sales books (oldies but goodies!):

How To Master The Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins

How To Sell Anything To Anybody by Joe Girard

Secrets of Closing The Sale by Zig Ziglar

The Joe Girard book in particular is chock full of great ideas you can use to build a business.

Re: Trouble reading books

Maxrod88, I understand how you feel. Here are some of the coping mechanisms that I have used over the years: Get a sense of a particular effect you want to learn out of one of the books you have--this forum can help you with that. Then go right to that effect and spend time with it. Don't try to rea...

Doug,

Wow--your post brought back vivid memories of Flaco talking about his son doing three card monte on the streets. He was very proud of him.

Re: Flaco

Richard, I'm not surprised to hear that he actually helped you move. Flaco was a take action guy who thrived on connecting with others. He sold me my copy of Greater Magic. He was always selling something--but he always gave a lot in return! I'd love to be able to piece together more of his story. H...

Flaco

Flaco was a well known Manhattan magician in (I believe) the 70s and 80s. Anyone have any good Flaco stories? What ever happened to him? I didn't know him well--but every time I ran into him at Tannen's--he was very generous with help, advice and knowledge. He seemed to be a wealth of knowledge and ...

Re: Lou Tannen - Memories

I have fond memories of going there as a young boy. I grew up in Manhattan and started going to Tannen's when I was around 12 years old. On any given day--Frank Garcia, Harry Lorayne, Derek Dingle, Ken Krenzel and Meir Yedid could be found in front of or behind the counter performing magic. I believ...

Re: Tannen's Magic

I had a really positive customer service experience at Tannens last Thursday night. I had signed up for the Darwin Ortiz lecture, but Mr. Ortiz cancelled a couple of days prior to the lecture because he had come down with a case of the flu. Tannens turned a potentially negative situation-into what I...

Re: New York Coinmagic Seminar

I wanted to take a moment to thank David, Geoff, Michael and Mike for an amazing experience at the New York Coin Magic Seminar. I was looking for something that would serve as a springboard for my coin magic--what better way to accomplish this than by spending a day with David Roth, Geoff Latta, Mic...
