Re: The Neurology Behind Magic

I spent a lot of time with Drs. Macknick and Martinez-Conde at the recent Theory and Art of Magic conference at Muhlenberg College. They're a great couple and having a ball diving headlong into magic. They were there as attendees, not presenters. Both also went to Roberto Giobbi's full-day workshop,...

Re: Allan Kronzek's New Book

Well, it did cause a week-long spike in the Amazon numbers, although I have no idea what that means in terms of copies sold. Howard Schwartz of The Gamblers Book Shop in Las Vegas gave his blessing to the book yesterday. The curious can check it out at: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www...

Re: Allan Kronzek's New Book

Brad, Im heartened that you thought there was something positive in Peter Duffies review. I felt that every compliment was backhanded or grudging. I also found it irksome that he spent so much time on minutia, like the sound of the second deal versus the bottom deal, as if anyone could hear either u...

Allan Kronzek's New Book

Dear Friends, This is a pitch for my new book: 52 WAYS TO CHEAT AT POKER: HOW TO SPOT THEM, FOIL THEM, AND PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST THEM. Jamy Ian Swiss gave it a rave review in the March Genii, calling it "A remarkably fresh turn on a very old subject." Martin Gardner, in MUM, honored me ...

Roger,

It was wonderful getting to know you over the years. When you complimented a performance of mine, I was in heaven for days. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Re: Bill Tarr has Died

I met Bill in 1984. We started talking magic at an art opening in East Hampton, had dinner together that night, along with our spouses Yvonne and Ruby, and remained close for 22 years. Bill would have loved these posts, and Ill share them with his sons, and at the tribute. We went to a few magic con...

Re: historical figures who are magicians

Leonardo da Vinci definitely qualifies. Magic historian William Kalush writes: "In Milan before the close of the fifteenth century, Luca Pacioli, a Franciscan brother in the Catholic Church, with the help of a young artist, wrote what I consider to be the first book devoted primarily to conjuri...

Re: Openly stacking a Memorized Deck

Simon,

Thanks for the tips. You're right - it plays much better when the performer presents it as a feat of memory - rather than allowing the audience to reach that conclusion on their own.

Openly stacking a Memorized Deck

I'm wondering if anyone has used the method, given by Jean Hugard in The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks, for openly stacking a shuffled deck under the guise of a four card location. The method is to cull and then force the first or last four cards of the stack, have them returned to the deck, control t...

Re: HELP!!!!!! I NEED INFO ON: BLACKS (AFRICAN-AMERICANS AND OTHERS) MAGIC

Jim Magus's book "Magical Heroes - The Lives and Legends of Great African American Magicians" is devoted entirely to this subject. It begins with a history of black-American performers from the early 1800s and takes us through 1995, when the book was published. I bought a copy several year...
