Re: Magic Square

Although not entirely original, the method taught on John Archer's DVD has served me well for many performances.

It's easy to do, and does away with some discrepancies other methods may have.

Re: Is Magic A "Red Flag" When You're Dating?

I love my job, but the word "magician" would never come up within the first few dates, let alone use magic as some sort of pick-up tool. Egads! Put down the f-ing cards. Unfortunately, the word "magician" conjures up (pardon the pun) too many negative stereotypes. You know what t...

Re: Are magic books losing collector value?

One of the most respected (if not the most respected) magic booksellers listed a copy of Charvet's "Alexander" (first edition, limit to 1000) for $60. That's at least $15 below original retail. What do you think? What do you know? I may not be right on this, but I'm pretty sure that Alexa...

Re: The Catchpenny Club - Magic on Australian TV

Quick question - how censored will the show be?

I ask because I was there for a few of the shows and laughed (a lot) at some of the more risqu material by some of the comedians. Will this be included, or has it been cut for TV?

Re: Why do you go to conventions?

The problem I have is that I'd like to see more stage performers lecture - even though the majority of convention attendee's would rather see a close-up sleight jockey.

My ideal convention will never happen, but the upcoming NZ convention would probably come close.

About 2 years ago, when doing walk-around gigs, I switched to carrying only a single deck of cards and a sharpie - nothing else. The switch was because of both the guilty feeling, and the lack of examinability of some of my effects. Now, I exude a guilt-free confidence, and maybe one time in 100 som...

Re: Approaching Magic Essay

Hmmm, I think you're mixing apples and oranges now. In a close up environment, there's a certain "hands-on" expectation, whereas on stage it's more like TV (look but don't touch). Back to the OP - in a card to impossible location (using a duplicate, where I'm not supposed to know the value...

Re: For Sale: Large list of books, lecture notes and original Apocalypse

I was third (I think) to email about the Gene Maze book. I have a modest collection of 700-ish books, and this one is proving difficult to find. I'd rather get the original printing, but a print-on demand edition will tie me over in the mean time (if it were available). I don't much care for e-books.

Re: Approaching Magic Essay

I agree with David Regal on this (and Darwin Ortiz as it happens). Paraphrasing Darwin from Designing Miracles, it's far better to burn the "method" bridges before a spectator gets to them. Eg, show the deck has one card missing and then reveal it in it's impossible location. Not the other...
