You can set Mac laptop keyboard to allow for "right clicking" in the preferences menu. Then if you tap on bottom right of touch pad it will right click. You can also/alternatively hold the option or control key (can't remember which or perhaps it can be set for either) together with clicki...

Genii in New York Times Crossword

"Genii" was the answer to 17 across on today's New York Times crossword puzzle (Thursday, May 1, 2014). By the way, fun puzzle with an interesting twist. Sadly, the answer wasn't clued by referring to the famous magic magazine (isn't Genii Magazine known to everyone!?)--instead, the clue i...

Re: Magician killed by autopsy...

Reminds of an expression (in Russian) I learned when I studied/lived in Russia many years ago: "According to the autopsy, the cause of death was the autopsy." (Gotta love Russian dark humor! Another expression I liked was "The autopsy will show"--e.g., if someone asks for what yo...

Re: Nothing to Hide - NYC

Great show! Lots of fun and entertaining.

Well written and thought through. Everything, even the classic stuff, felt fresh.

Even if you don't live in NYC, if you haven't seen this show then visit town and catch a performance!

Re: Mike Caveney's new book

In volume 2 of his books Mike discusses the illusions he re-enacted for the L.A. Conference on Magic History. To actually see this historical stuff--even re-enactments--on video would be great. (I've only gotten to see the last couple items described in the books live and would LOVE to see the rest....

Re: Mike Caveney's new book

Mike, The new books are really great so far. (It will take a long time to read everything. I do agree that if there were a way to read the books on the iPad without risking piracy, would be really convenient.) For those of us who haven't seen you perform everything, would be fantastic to be able to ...

Link to the segment from NBC's web site: http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/video/does-this-delight-betty-white/n43133/ Mike performs in the second half of the segment. Neat stuff. Re: LA History Conference attendees, details please!

The Saturday evening show was superb. Some of the original cast from the original Broadway Merlin show and others sat on chairs on stage and spoke and sang highlights from show. Was narrated by tv producer/writer Bill Link. Musician David Spear, who had worked with Merlin's composer Elmer Bernstein,...

Re: The Trick that Fooled Einstein

The Savoy was/is a high-end hotel in London. The only record I can find of Einstein being there was from an article in the Times of London from 1930 for a dinner in support of the Jews of Eastern Europe. Koran was only born in 1917, so I'd guess the meeting would have had to occur after WWII. A 9/1...

Re: Bob Steiner passes

Very sad to hear. When I was an undergrad at UC Berkeley in the late 1980's, together with some friends I started a skeptics club at the university (the "Berkeley Skeptics"). We thought it would be fun to investigate paranormal activity on campus. Also, a couple of us were magicians and it...

Re: ERDNASE

Hi All, Those are five really good "questions for S.W. Erdnase" that Bill Mullins stated, in my opinion. One that I might have might be similar to one of David Levy's questions that he would ask Hoyle. I would probably want to ask S.W. Erdnase something like this. I would count this as on...

Re: New Book Coming on the Card Magic of David Berglas

No need to read between the lines. Like a lot of good material, it will take some time and careful pract...

Re: More Bad News for Publishers in the New York Times

Between people taking photos of pages they need in books and the ease of on-line purchasing, it's a real pity that we may see the end of physical book stores. A lot of great book stores are shutting down. I was very sad to see the gigantic Barnes & Noble near Lincoln Center in New York City shut...

Got the book today and started flipping through it. I'm super impressed!

Re: Cold Reading phrase origins?

I just looked through Julien Proskauer's book "Spook Crooks" (1928, 1st UK ed). In 1928, when the book was first published, Proskauer was Chairman of the Press Committee and a Trustee of Parent Assembly Number one of the Society of American Magicians. He was also a member of the Magic Circ...

Re: Cold Reading phrase origins?

Julien Proskauer also used the phrase in 1946 on page 17 of his book "The Dead Do Not Talk" (but, for whatever it is worth, he did not necessarily use the phrase in his earlier books written in the 1930's). I looked through a few other books on debunking psychics from the 1880's through 19...

No Swann Magic Auction this October (2009)
