Re: Young Magician Shot in Anaheim

Nice young man who won the local Orange County magic club youth contest a couple of times. Anaheim has some nice areas but is generally a relatively poor area of service industry, factory and construction workers homes and industrial areas. It has a large hispanic population and a significant gang p...

Re: Banned from Blackpool for my "Safety"

From these discussion I get the impression that British and Aussie magic clubs seem to be much more formal organizations with club rooms and dictatorial officials. Local American magic clubs in my experience, at least, are loosely organized social organizations with a minimum of politics or formaliz...

Re: FISM in UK 2012 ??

Blackpool is now a MUST see convention if only to be on scene for the most "interesting" convention in a long time. Front row seats to see the sinking of the Titanic are worth the cost (of course, hopefully without any loss of human life). Hopefully, the organizers know something we don't ...

Re: FISM in UK 2012 ??

How come when I type in the address www.fism.2012.org as noted on the Blackpool flyer I get a message that says "Related searches: End of the World"? Ironic???

Re: World Magic Seminar

Due to the lack of proper lighting and lighting cues the levitation looked like the "woman on a black stick" illusion from my vantage point (stage right). I thought the rotation looked good until the lights came up revealing all. And no the platform and rotating stage are not connected.

Re: Rings 'N' Thing II going belly up

Received my copper Mendoza cups yesterday from RNTII. They are exactly as advertised and flawless. Hope to see the Biro cups in the next few days. Sometimes the system DOES work.

Re: IBM/SAM: The Convention of the Century

One of the areas where the fundamental differences may arise is one's personal definition of "magic". I see "magic" as the seeming accomplishment of the most effect with the least effort. Therefore, displays of physical skill and manual dexterity should be minimized or hidden and...

Re: IBM/SAM: The Convention of the Century

Richard, I'm sure you're right. I often let my disinterest in manipulators overshadow their considerable accomplishments. The contest would have been much more equitable if there had been more categories (illusion, manipulation, comedy, etc.)

Re: IBM/SAM: The Convention of the Century

Wasn't there a magic contest in Japan where the results were judged on measurable values? Who could "muscle pass" the highest and do the most passes in a minute, etc. I seem to remember Shoot Ogawa winning some such award.

Re: IBM/SAM: The Convention of the Century

"I didn't see any of the close-up competition, so I did not vote there, but I certainly voted for the Korean An Ha Lim for the stage final. The guy kicked everyone in the head!" Here is why judges must see things from such totally different viewpoints. An Ha Lim was for me one of the most ...

Re: Commentary on the Andre Kohl Show

Maybe the answer for why this person was so upset can be found in his signature: "Freshman Psychology major" I never met a freshman psychology major who wasn't confused and challenged on religion. It seems to be the mission of those teaching freshman psychological to try and shake students...

Re: WTB: Neon (Flourescent) Light Suspension

AH Pete. The famous Japan performance with the neon tube going in upside-down and Kirkham falling off the stage. The neon tube suspension is one of my all time favorite illusions. Blew me away the first time I saw Kirkham perform it (Hollywood circa 1970).

Re: 2005 LVMI Schedule of Events

You're killing me Danny with all these schedule changes. I was coming especially to see John Bannon and now you've switched him to Tuesday when I'm booked for another event. The same thing happened last year at Mindvention - last minute cancellation of the one performer I most wanted to see.

Re: Side-Swiped

I use it all the time in my trade show work with custom cards featuring the clients name and logo. I use a line something like "Did you know that in addition to being the top supplier of widgets, XYZ company has just released a magic trick for its customers, etc."

Magic in Medicine

I posted this in the Genii general section but I think it fits here better. I'm aware of Copperfield's Project Magic but in this case...

I offer an alternative in one word: Bondo

Regards,

Bondo plus Green Stuff for a real Gaughan or Owens finish. Spend time in the automotive paint finish stores - that's where the pros get their materials

Re: Chop-cup how to.

Collector's Workshop/Viking Magic

Anyone know what is happening with Viking Magic and the Collector's Workshop line of magic? I see from their web site that almost every large CW item is "out of stock". Are they having problems producing the more complicated items? I have other items backordered for several months.
