Re: Mental Yarn - by Bill Goldman

The late Ned Rutledge deserves credit for the concepts behind "Mental Yarn". I believe his work is far superior and is worthy of searching out.

There are a number of variations of this effect on the market. One that uses a similar method is Magic, Inc.'s "Dr. Rhine Outdone".

Re: David Ben - exposer

People who knowingly expose magical techniques during their public presentations may be entertaining, funny, glib, intelligent, even well paid. They are not however, MAGICIANS. It is all very simple; a true Magician keeps the secret.

Re: Prof Presentations of Al Koran

They are two different books, both authored by Hugh Miller. "Professional Presentations" was first published by Harry Stanley. "Al Koran's legacy was initially released in 1972 by Repro 71.

The essence of Koran's brilliance is found in what was left out of these inspiring books.

Re: Chinese Louie

Louie is a great teacher. He knows the value of an effect and can always get the stink out of it.

Look on page 327 of Tarbell Vol. 6 for a politically incorrect misprint.

You will not always agree with Ken Weber, but his new book, "Maximum Entertainment" will get you thinking about how you perform. His many years as a pro more than qualify him to give your act new direction. He points out the triumphs and failings of many performers and gives solid advice o...

Re: Downtown Chicago Magic Shop?

My first and perhaps last gainful magical employment was in 1964 at "The Elders", a shop run by Tom Palmer in Ireland's vacated space.

I was fortunate to meet a great number of legends. There are many tales, most of which shouldn't be told

Re: 2 person mentalism

King and Zorita's act was the most engaging 2 person presentation I have ever seen. He was unassuming. She was regal. Audience members clamored to be the next participant. Eddie Fields and George Martz were "real". They made believer's out of the most skeptical. They thought like real peop...

Re: Mentalist Research?

I wonder why my initial post made on August 1st of 2002 did not generate much of a response for well over a year? It all is rather moot now that the page beseeching research no longer seems to be on the web, the contributors have been compensated and are happy, and from all reports an amazing TV sho...

Re: Becker's "Ultimate Flashback"

The beginner's book that I referenced was, I believe, written by a Philadelphia magic shop owner/exposer. He detailed the original Flashback principle by explaining what amounts to Dan Tong's "Peek-A-Book". The book was reviewed in a recent issue of Genii or Magic. I was told that the copi...

Re: John Shirley's ESPerimental

"He could stand back 30 feet at times and still identify the cards." Credit for the ability to do this should rightly be given to the late Ned Rutledge. When the producers of John Shirley's ESperimental became aware that the method was really Ned's, they pulled John's version off the marke...

Re: Small Audience? What to do?

Working at Chicago's Palyboy Club in 1976. Big Snowstorm (real snow/not confetti). Five people in the audience. A couple in heat and three Japanese businessmen who spoke no English. The show went on. Where is Max Maven when you need him? What memories.
