Re: A Gary Kurtz issue?

I've seen a part of his mentalism show on tv. Interesting, but doesn't compare to when I saw him at a Montreal Magic Convention years ago.

He was really nice and very impressive magician. Too bad he's out of magic, but I guess Flurious just doesn't pay the bills.

Using Heat to create a Slick Key Card

Hello Esteemed members of this board, I was wondering if heating a card, to create a slick card has ever been done? To be specific: 1. Place a deck of cards on a laptop that is on. 2. Let the cards heat up for 30 seconds or so, creating a heated key card. 3. Give the deck a cut, then spread the card...

Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Hey, that looks like me! (Albeit 50 pounds lighter, 5 inches taller, and a lot tougher looking. Of course, if I looked like that, I'd be in the movies too!) I just saw the movie today and enjoyed it. Even my son liked it. He said, "That was a great movie!" after it was over. Of course, he ...

Memorizing Mnemonica

Has anybody memorized the stack using the method described in the book? If so, was it successful and did your family think you were totally nuts?

The Magic Zone

An interesting story: I walked by a Magic Zone stand the other day and the operator was looking really bored. I asked him as a joke, "Do you have a Ferrari like Rocco does?" Magic Zone Guy: "You know Rocco?" Me: "No, but I see his ad in Genii all the time." MZG: "W...

Re: Is this how businesses treat their customers?

Yes, I did pay full for the original order. I took the membership because I thought I'd eventually use it. I guess I never got around to buying more things, but I am not upset in paying for the membership. Oh well, c'est la vie! I agree with the suggestion in sticking with the established players. I...

Re: Is this how businesses treat their customers?

I would go to a local magic shop if I had one around me. When I am in SF, I go to Joe's, Boston, Hank Lee's, Montreal, Perfect Magic (but they close on Saturdays. :( ). I don't save any money shopping online because I have to convert currency and pay for shipping. If I had a shop with quality magic ...

Re: Is this how businesses treat their customers?

 Okay here it is: 1 year ago: Place a large order with the retailer. (Around $150, hey that's a lot of money for me!) 1 year - 1 hour I find out that if I had joined their "Club", I would have saved a substantial amount off my order. I inquire about it, but the retailer says that...

Is this how businesses treat their customers?

Here is an email I recieved from a magic shop: ******************** Hi Areeb: I'm sorry, but transactions like this are precisely the reason I've decided to close the business. A year ago, I offered you a discounted XXXX XXXX membership. In appreciation, you have purchased nothing from me for a year...

I will be fortunate enough to get to go to France next week for work. Are there any places one must visit once there (magic or not)? I will be arrving in Paris, and spending most of my time in Grenoble. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Books vs. Videos

Look at it this way: Would Erdnase be discussed as it is today, and a source of many threads on this forum, if it was just a compilation of moves on video? I don't think so. Do videos entitle a reader to "read between the lines" the way that a book can do? No again. Do videos help in demon...

Re: Indulgent Poll Question

I love books. I enjoy the anticipation of opening the book I just bought and becoming lost to the world for the next few hours. Ebooks are okay, but if I had a choice, I would buy a book over an ebook any day. I got a few (ebooks) to see what the out of print books originally contained, but once I h...

Has this ever happened to you?

I had a deck of cards and my co-worker picked them up. He shuffled the deck and took out a card without my asking. He then said," Tell me what card I have." Now I had no idea what card he chose. I did a fan and pretended to memorize the deck in a split second. I then said confidently "...

Re: Ideas for Future Articles

How about Henry Christ? Love that ace routine. He must have done more than just that! What about a book on his material? Also, would an article on Norman Gilbreath be feasable? Was he a magician, a mathmatician, or both? His actual principles explained would be of interest. Tricks using his priciple...

Re: Denny's Ad on the September back cover

I thought the ad was funny. Considering I buy most of my magic online, it made me wonder. However, the reason I buy online is because there is no magic shop in my neck of the woods. If there was one, I would definately be a patron. I enjoy visiting magic shops and seeing what is new first hand. You ...

Re: Stewart James in Print-The First Fifty Years...

I went as far as emailing the Hermetic Press about this very issue. Stephen Minch said there were no plans to do a reprint but if they were to do one, it wouldn't be until next year. Maybe things have changed. Your best bet would be to write to the Hermetic Press to find out if it will be released. ...
