Genii for kids

Having received in the mail the latest issue of National Geographic For Kids, and enjoying it with my kids, I'm left wondering what a Genii For Kids magazine would look like. I understand that print magazines' days are numbered, but it just seems sad that there isn't a magic magazine for my kids to ...

Re: B'Wave

Brad, neither of your two descriptions of the effect is how I interpret the instructions for the trick. I don't see it as finding any random card, nor do I see it as influencing a spectator to pick a specific card. Rather, I see it as a magical coincidence that a spectator's free choice of four quee...

Re: B'Wave

I wasn't aware the original authorized version uses blanks. The instructions made it look like it was Maven's version. I fully support purchasing the original product. As Russ pointed out, the reason I would like to have two sets is if people at different tables talk to each other later about the ef...

Re: B'Wave

The two sets I own have instructions from Phil Goldstein, so I would hope they came from him, but I'm not sure. If the original uses blanks then that would be fine as well, as long as I could have two same-color backed sets, one with red queens and one with blacks. The reason being, and I'm sure thi...

Re: Penn & Teller's Fool Us -- US broadcast

I really like this little program. Just magic, not a lot of reality/game show filler. And I think the "Fool Us" concept, while not suitable for most TV magicians, is perfect for P&T. That said, the moments when the magicians (and sometimes the host) had to explain away P&T's guesse...

Dustin, I just thought you might want to be reminded of something you said in another thread about Gellar.

Re: An Honest Liar

Yes, Dustin [Sigh] I suppose I'm just not in the know of FBI training methods used by people with lots of PH.Ds. So I guess that makes you the FBI agent here. How sneaky of you to book your "criminal" to speak at a law enforcement convention, just to gain valuable info about how the crimin...

Re: An Honest Liar

Respectfully Dustin, your FBI/police analogy is really weird. If you want to go there, then what seems more correct is that Gellar/Manson was invited to speak as the guest of honor at a police convention. While there he admitted to not really being a murderer but rather a nuanced police officer (thi...

Re: An Honest Liar

Wow Dustin, what a spin you're putting on the Gellar appearance. So now Genii was helping to debunk the famous professional psychic that the world knows Gellar to be by giving him an award and standing ovations so that "agnostics" will know (wink, wink) that his whole career up to this poi...

Teller, Swiss, Randi - Those are some pretty great names. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss them as "stupid." "Geller's appearance at the Genii convention was certainly a de facto admission of his status as a magician and not a "true psychic"..." Gellar appearing at a m...

Re: An Honest Liar

Really, I just posted a link to an award the film got. For whatever reason, Genii has made it clear that Randi and this film will not be covered in the magazine. Oh, well, according to Dustin I suppose the reason is that he is a Geller "detractor" and therefore "stupid." Anyway, ...

Re: Not the Best Review for Penn & Teller

"99.9%" of the attendees loved Geller? Is that supposed to be some sort of validation against the fact that P&T won't speak to you anymore since that booking? Even if that ridiculous statistic were true (did you do some sort of survey?), I value the opinion of Penn & Teller more th...

Nice of Richard to point out a semi-bad review of their show in England (maybe because they don't talk to him anymore?), but there seem to be plenty of great reviews of the show coming out of the UK. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/arts/stage/theatre/article4120676.ece http://www.manchestereveningnews...

Those are great videos. Still curious if Randi ever made the cover of Genii (I'd check the archive myself, but I'm waiting to renew to the new digital only subscription). Re: Exposure in Boing Boing

And today Card College got linked on Boing Boing. See, now that softens the blow for me. A trick with an explanation here, a link to a great book there, some history, context, etc. Instead of just "method porn." How magic is represented in media other than Genii is important. Boing Boing ...

Exposure in Boing Boing

Boing Boing, a widely read blog, has traditionally been a fan of magic, with items appearing pretty regularly. However, to my knowledge, I've never seen them run an exposure. I could be wrong. I know this piece will have zero effect on magic and its secrets, but it made me squirm a little, nonethele...

Re: Geller stoops to a new low

Brad, it's P T Widdle to you. Yeah, I guess I'm "archaic." We live in a world now where the definition of a magician is so broad that it includes these post-modern performer/magician/psychic types. Kind of like Andy Kaufman, right? Oh, and isn't it funny that Kaufman sought out a psychic h...

I'd be fairly confident in saying that relative to the number of hours TV he's had his "fail" rate is below average.
