Re: Why Triumph Is A Great Routine..

The first time I used the 'Daryl display' someone suggested it was the way I got the cards back into order.
If your shuffle is convincing, it is so unnecessary, it leads to a (fake) solution.

Re: Marlo's Convincing Control

Hi; completely agree that Immediate Bottom Placement is not the Hofzinser cull!!!! But; what Marlo describes in Marlo's Magazine is: "Larry spreads deck FACE UP and has a spectator touch any card in the center. He then closes up the spread, turns the deck over, then shows the card is on top of ...

Re: Marlo's Convincing Control

I'm sorry. According to the Marlo Magazine, this is what Sharp described to Marlo "Larry spreads deck FACE UP and has a spectator touch any card in the center. He then closes up the spread, turns the deck over, then shows the card is on top of the deck." This does not sound to me like Conv...

You're right.
Even though Larry used Marlo techniques, it doesn't seem that Marlo applied these handlings to this effect.

Larry Jennings and Mental Reverse

The trick known as Mental Reverse (Spectator thinks of one of 4, 5 or 6 cards; the mental selection is the only reversed card in the pack) goes back I think to Horowitz, who used double backed cards, in a way that would probably still be effective today. In Expert Card Technique, Zingone introduced ...

OK; I've got two questions. I'll put the other in a different thread to avoid confusion. Richard; regardless of who copied who; out of interest, did Larry have anything specific on "Larry spreads deck FACE UP and has a spectator touch any card in the center. He then closes up the spread, turns ...

Richard: I've had Jennings 66 since it was published! But in it you say that in Marlos Magazine 6, Marlo admitted that he'd been told by Sharpe how the Jennings sleight looked from the spectators point of view. But the description in Marlo's Magazine 6 is what I give above; which bears no resemblanc...

Resurrecting an old thread: The Jennings story is that Jennings showed the move to Sharp who described it to Marlo. The Marlo story is that the move described by Sharp was not Convincing Control. Well. According to Marlo's magazine the move Sharp described was: "Larry spreads deck FACE UP and h...

I have some sympathy with performer here. The trouble is - if you criticise a book on performance, it opens you up to the criticism that you think performance doesn't matter. I have a vague memory that Nelms put on a magic show...and it flopped (or am I confusing him with Fitzkee? If I am - did Nelm...

Re: Day Vernon and the Kangaroo

Pretty sure there is no connection; Kangaroo Coins was in Stars of magic - so came out in 40s/50s. My (distant) memory of the kangaroo story was that it involved Larry Jennings - who didn't come into Vernon's life until the 60s. Plus, as has been pointed out, sadly the kangaroo story is an urban myth.

Sure; Ben's description is best. There is also one in the Cervon Notebooks. But it is shown performed by Vernon in The Interview; and I don't think anyone publiclally picked up on it being a different pass. Me too.

There is a line in these things; and it is better to be well inside those lines; but I don't think there was an issue here; and it was certainly nothing to do with the performer.

I look forward to the reviews; but have little doubt that this is a classic.
