Re: Camera tricks and stooges and ticket sales, oh my

Coming back to mrgoat's original post; it will be interesting to see how Dynamo's personality comes across in a big venue.
I think some of us feel that magic is less about the tricks per se and more about your personality.

Re: New from Kaufman and Company: The Skinner Tapes

I had a couple of train journeys this weekend which gave me that chance to listen to a couple of the CDs. These are inspirational. Mike was so passionate about magic. I don't know why he was sharing so much with Allen - it seems that Allen was asking about some fairly basic stuff; but I understand A...

Re: Alan Alan R.I.P.

I knew Alan only as the slightly odd-looking magic shop owner. But, for a period in the 1980s, I worked a ten minute walk from his shop, and loved to visit it. In the pre-internet age, it was a Mecca for me. Sure he knew the importance of gags for the passing tourists - the buzzer, the pin through h...

Re: The Professor

Oh! Thank you so much for posting that!
It's funny; it's a bit like Malini talking about "It's the eye"; when you are a beginner it is meaningless; but after many hours of thinking and practise, it starts to makes sense! (And in this case, the Genii column helps!)

Re: Steal these Cervon Castle Notebooks again!

This is funny. Credits? Sure - no-one held these as more than Bruce's recollections of the credits. Annotations? Sure - no doubt the majority of magicians would require extensive annotations. But - these were Bruce's personal notebooks. So, weren't intended to meet either of these criteria. Understa...

Slydini's Imp Pass, Slydini Switch, and Guyatt

Firstly - I apologise in advance to Jonathan - I have no videos... Slydini's brilliant Imp Pass was first published in Slydini Encores in 1966. In the description it is made clear that he had "never exposed it" In The Best of Slydini and More (1976) in the Bonus section, the Slydini Switch...

mrgoat; to be fair, this probably isn't the Optical Toss that you are thinking of....

Sandwichange is in Apocalypse Vol 15 No 5 May 1992

Optical Toss

Today by a happy coincidence I was playing with Larry Jennings' Optical Toss, while looking through a volume of Apocalypse. It struck me that Harry Lorayne's Sandwichange is, in effect, an application of the Optical Toss. I don't mean that Harry stole from Larry. Just that the heart of both moves is...

Ostin writes he developed his ending after reading the Jennings routine in a magazine. I presume this was Peripatetic Coins in Genii in 1966. So it looks like Kort was there first.

Coins Across - Last Coin

I was talking to a friend recently about the last coin in a coins across routine using a shell; the now fairly common handing of making the coin travel to the spectator's hand. He thought this handling belonged to Jennings; he said Jennings had told him it was his. My memory was that, in the Dingle ...
