Re: ERDNASE

This is fantastic news Tom!

It was when I finally got my hands on your S.W. Erdnase: Another View that the search for Erdnase began to make sense to me, and I began to read all that was available on Erdnase and his book.

Re: Ricky Jay's Congress of Wonders

Why would Jay "disinvite" you Richard? It makes it all seem as if he understood quite clearly in advance that there would be very little to do with magic taking place at this event, and that the event as a whole would be easily slammed in any magic focused critique (which presumably you wo...

Thanks for taking a personal interest in my posts anhedonia, and more importantly - me ... it's really very sweet! You're utterly irrelevant though, so best you move on from trying to talk to me. Re: Ricky Jay's Congress of Wonders

Jay has made it abundantly clear, over a period of decades, that to all of those folks who "want a piece of him", be they amateur magicians or dilettantes, that he simply wasn't interested in participating in such interaction. In other words, you're welcome to buy his books and movies, to ...

Re: Ricky Jay's Congress of Wonders

I'm not sure why folks might feel that simply cutting a rather large cheque in order to attend this event might cause RJ to alter his personality or suddenly become something that he's made very clear that he's "not"? Folks seem to relate events like this directly to their experiences at m...

Re: Sarah Silverman and Chelsea Handler on magicians

It's a routine being performed by two comedians , not based on any "real life" truth. Silverman found she could get a laugh by using the words "close-up magician" so she developed a short routine based around slagging that particular group. Although it's tempting to read more int...

Before anybody freaks out about attaching the word "sociopath" to accurately observed behavior, let's examine what the word "sociopath" actually means. 1) Sociopaths are delusional by nature, and literally believe because they say something, it becomes an indisputable truth. 2) S...

Re: Kaufman publishing magic books again?

Some folks internal wiring leaves them no choice but to be reclusive.

The apparent rudeness, social foibles, and inability to be close to people are wholly unintentional.

For those folks, it may be the only way they can exist alongside everybody else in the world.

Re: I Join Those Banned from The Magic Cafe

Brooks doesn't "get" sarcasm. So one has to be up front with him, like this: "Brooks, we don't for a single second believe that you're in any place "out of country" where there is no internet, where you don't have 5 minutes to instruct Scribner (or whoever) to reinstate Rich...

Re: I Join Those Banned from The Magic Cafe

The Magic Cafe was, is, and always will be a cesspool. It will never lift itself beyond being that cesspool because of the reduced IQ levels of the moderators (see any post by Scribner for an example), and the overt hubris and unrelenting self-importance of its owner. Brooks is indeed in the pockets...

Busby is dead now, perhaps it is remedial to try to find at least one positive thing to say about the guy, and if one can't find one positive thing (which is absolutely fine) - perhaps letting Busby rest in peace and saying nothing at all might be the way to go. Saying one nice thing about a somebod...

Erdnase lived in Montana? "No honor among thieves" proving once again to be an "old adage" containing some pretty solid truth. If one examines the actual words, no - honor - among - thieves it pretty much explains itself. Shameless theft, stupifyingly unoriginal, disgusting, and ultimately shun-worthy.
