Re: Bob Fitch 2010 Magician of the Year!

This is great news, and Bob is certainly a worthy recipient. He's done a lot for magic. He's a great magician, director and friend.

Congratulations Bob.

Re: CAM 2009 Awards & Wrap-Up

What David hasn't mentioned is how we couldn't have run this convention without him. He was a huge part in making the weekend the success that it was. The planning was a 2-year process and David was always there to help. Needless to say, it was an honour for me to be able to present the Magician of ...

Re: Eric DeCamps at the World Science Festival 2008

I was at the event last weekend and it was great. Packed room, and very receptive audience. The talk itself was interesting, and there were many examples of how our minds help to fool us, and even included a demo of Andrus's Tri-zonal space warp. Now to the magic. I've never seen Eric work much for ...

Re: Magic-Daniel, My New Best Friend

I've bought things from him on two separate occasions. The first time, it went rather smoothly. The second time, I waited a rather long time for shipment, and tried contacting him with no response. However, the package arrived at my doorstep not a week email. So perhaps he is not the best at keeping...

Re: multiple cards to pocket

Another vote for Chuck Smith. He really solved the last card problem beautifully. I was lucky enough to get a chance to see him perform this in Buffalo in October, and the routine (as well as the thinking behind it) was fantastic.

That's right. Rick Johnsson of Too Perfect Theory fame. The book was entitled Practical Impossibilities and includes among other things his IBGTH switch.

The entire book is on nothing else but his Tenkai palm, including handling tips, angles, and of course tons of applications.

Re: What are the odds?

That's not right, Rafael. One should not be thinking in terms of sequences and cuts. It's sort of hard to explain but I'll give it a try. From the mathworld site that James referenced: "Derangements are permutations without fixed points." In the context of playing cards, a derangement is a...

James is right on the money. In fact, I remember this problem was first posed to me (in a slightly different form) in my first college probability course. Re: Riffle stacking

John, the average schmo is very unlikely to be shuffling the deck 7 times. And he is even less likely to know (or care) that it takes that many shuffles for a deck to be "random". I'm a relative newbie to riffle stacking myself, but if you're taking that much time to stack two cards, good ...

I do this in an effect with a small packet of cards over a table to avoid the big mess, and have yet to have the spectator drop all the cards. If the spec holds tight enough, this should not happen.
