Forte describes it in either his poker protection book or the casino protection book. Look under card wash or scramble, also check out his description of "weeding."

Jack Carpenter has a number of very nice effects using the second deal. One of the best is called Nine Angry Men--It is a poker demo.

Re: Has the Real Work on John Scarne's Ace Cutting Been Tipped?

Fulves printed a method for blocking off the aces to cut to them. He wrote that this was the method that Scarne used for the ace cutting. Based upon Scarne's description in The Odds Against Me, I don't believe he blocked them off during the course of a shuffle. I think gamblers would definitely have...

Earnie does the palm flawlessly. A good form of cover is to show the top card with the right hand as the palm is being made. The right arm covers any movement of the left fingers.

Regarding the egg, here is something you might try that has worked very well. After filling in the hole of the blown egg give it several coats with Elmer's glue. It dries clear and really strengthens the shell.

I purchased the book but it is extremely difficult to learn some of the complicated flourishes from the descriptions.

Therefore I concur with Richard that a video would probably be better.

Both of the books are very similar. In regards to Scarne's ability,Scarne was listed by John Northern Hilliard as one of the 10 card stars listed in Greater Magic. Here is what Hilliard wrote: John Scarne, whose birthright was ten little fingers and a left hand of surprising activity. A sleight of h...

Re: Got Juice?

Scott,

There really is such a thing as a juice deck; however, it is not quite the same as the markings that were on the deck in the movie. Generally with a juice deck there is a series of dots or lines on the back and not the image of a card or a number. I hope that makes sense.

Steve,

I don't recall seeing any magic on the show even though it has some aspects of a 10 in one show. I do like the series and it has more of a supernatural type theme than a traveling carnival theme. Hope this helps.

Cannibal Presentation

In Darwin's new book, which I think is very good, he explains his version of the Cannibal Kings. He mentions Morlocks and Eloi, or the donner party, or shipwrecked sailors, zombies...

Karl Fulves published a pamphlet in which he explains how Scarne cut to the aces. I believe this is one of the ways Scarne may have cut to the aces; however, if you read Scarne's bio, THE ODDS AGAINST ME, Fulves explaination does meet the conditions Scarne sets. Dai Vernon in one of his columns in G...
