Re: IBM SAM Day 4

Hi Bill Thanks for the feedback ... but if you concur with my thinking then I need to ask - why be forced to wear it ? Who requires it ? And why comply ? What possible benefit does it serve ? I've had the same discussions with Shawn ... and he also references "because it's required" Then ...

Re: Rest In Peace Steve Evans

So sorry to hear about this. I got to meet Steve this year in Buxton when I was a guest of the British Ring Convention and found him to be engaging, charming and very funny. He was an excellent MC on the shows and he really did his homework. I'm glad I had the chance to spend a little time with him....

Re: Who invented What's Next?

Ben Stone [Delben] made the Delben Domino which was [and is] a great prop I have used in many CLE presentations over the years because of the "loophole" finish. If you have one, you know what I mean. If you don't, one of the dots becomes a hole in the domino at the end. There is always a &...

Re: We're Back From the Genii Bash!

Aside from the obvious highlights of Tamariz's and Giobbi's workshops and the great close up shows, a personal favorite for me was not even on the schedule...that is, getting to get inside Bob Farmer's brain for a little while...oh what a scary and brilliant landscape that is. Aside from finding out...

Re: Eric Jones impromptu moment August 2011 You Tube

No problem Steve...I actually see your point...it's just that the magicians whom I most respect that have seen fit to try to help me understand what the real secret of magic is, have always stressed that, even if you purchase an effect or book, you shouldn't just be a monkey and spit out whatever yo...

Re: Eric Jones impromptu moment August 2011 You Tube

I'm pretty sure that if you want to eliminate the "spell the days of the week" bit then you have to also eliminate the "throw away 1, 2, or 3" bit. Also the contrapositive: if you allow the spectator to throw away 1, 2, or 3, then you have to spell the days of the week (or somet...

Re: Eric Jones impromptu moment August 2011 You Tube

I've done it both ways. Last Thursday night, I performed it the way Woody teaches it in his book, and last night, I performed it pretty much the way Eric did in the video. I got a stronger reaction out of the latter. The "love" premise really didn't work for me. I plan to try it again with...

Re: Need help with gimmick production/design but trust no one.

I think it was probably a variation on Invisible Card To Cigarette, Collected Works Of Alex Emsley, Vol. 1, p. 274, L & L Publishing (1991), but it was 30 years ago and I've slept since then.

April 2011 Genii Speaks

Loved the jokes and novelties. I remember back in the late 1950s when I was about 7 or 8, we used to go to St. Petersburg Florida to visit friends and I found my first magic shop. I bought a little box that said "Hear The Sound of Your Own Voice" on it with two buttons. You would push the ...

It's been a personal refuge to me, and that is what I meant...I didn't mean that history supports this view. Well, not really. However, artists are artists, and I found this short quote interesting and I thought you might also. It's from "The Pat Metheny Interviews" by Richard Niles (Hal Leonard, 2009, p.88). After referencing the fine line between dedication and obsession in his own study of jaz...

Looking for Daub in all the wrong places

Does anyone have a good source of daub that can be used on the FACE of a card that is subtle enough for general invisibility but yet can be detected by the performer to enable one to cull those marked cards as one goes through a face up deck?
