Re: Great Card Control

Well, it looks like it's slightly unfair to say this is a complete reinvention. It mimics a standard convincing control where the card above the selection is outjogged in its place - but instead seems to use a different card for the fake outjog. As a result it looks (to me anyway) like the outjogged...

Re: What got you into magic?

Hmmm, I've had three distinct entry points into magic. The first in the mid-late 70's - seeing a magic programme on TV in the Uk with Messrs Seabrooke & Daniels. Cue dodgy magic sets and eventually (thank god) finding a copy of Harry Lorayne's Magic book in our local small-town library. But then...

Re: Rip-off of Derren Brown ?

Apologies jiggy - I'm thinking of a different ESP effect. I believe DB has (on TV) done a version of Hen Fetsch's Symbologic where all 5 cards selected by the participant are predicted by the performer. Apparently he does a very clean version. This is obviously different - which goes to prove your p...

Re: Paul Daniels Magic Course/Workshop

Steve, I am puzzled by your comments. Unless I've been asleep for the last couple of decades here in the UK, Paul Daniels has NOT had a long running talk show, and it certainly did not catapult his success and credibility - in fact I would say the reverse. Paul rose to prominence through magic - and...

Dave - I don't think it's just the PC who should avoid Sadowitz. I'm not PC at all, but do find his humour over the top for my tastes. Re: Has magic really come down to this?

I seem to remember from David Berglas' biography/book that he was offered a show like this in the 1960's and, of course, turned it down. Instead he proposed (and delivered) a show where he "exposed" a number of his completely orginal illusions (and then of course, fooled them again by doin...

Re: Garcia and Goldstein books on eBay

Not wanting to be picky Mike, but I don't think a "free Xerox copy" of the Yellow book is a bonus - more of a "don't touch with a barge pole" (unless you have permission for the copy from Mr Goldstein - who may in fact read and reply to this himself).

Re: for the big crowds

Amir, One of the advantages of mentalism is that you can hold a big crowd without needing big props. It's the fascination, personality and stage skills of the entertainer, the involvement of spectators and the sheer interest level of the topic that do it. So projectors are certainly not necessary. I...

Martin Breese ( www.martinbreese.com or www.abracadabra.co.uk for those of us in the UK) has a Fred Kaps lecture on CD. It's his 1965 lecture from the Magic Circle. I believe it also comes with a transcript.

Re: Screwing with their heads too much?

Re: No Deck Force

Scott, (Late reply) - I was referring to the restriction of choice patter in Killer Conceptions, not the actual effect. The verbal force itself isn't guaranteed to force a single card (which was the original question). Of course, combined with multiple outs as in KC, you always "win" - but...
