Damian and Matt, thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate them very much. I've also notched that Fantasma stock CLOTH. Mike, thank you for drawing Steve's attention to the review. CLOTH by Steve Valentine

CLOTH by Steve Valentine With all the controversy about the high price of one-trick DVDs, it’s a bit of surprise for me to review a three DVD set that deals with one trick. Or to be precise - one magical effect. Many one-trick DVDs on the market detail effects that have not been properly researched ...

There is no stronger test of material than performing for teenagers, especially Jewish teenagers, the latter being particularly perceptive for some reason. P.T., If you do plan on switching sets as you move around, and if people do follow you, which I doubt, your biggest problem will be remembering which set is which. At first it won't matter but towards the end of a two or three hour gig, your concentration may well lapse. Here's a couple of examples....

Re: Credits in Royal Road To Card Magic

Design For Laughter is basically, The Partagas Sell from Victor Farelli's Card Magic Part Two . Farelli credits it to the Señor Partagas who had a magic shop in Barcelona. In his book Farelli recommends preceding the trick with another, The Three Packets . In the latter trick, the participant cuts ...

Re: Plays or Musicals that can contain magic

While I didn't catch his show Irish magician Shane Gillen recently put on a show in Dublin titled, 'Lapse", which is a play with lots of magic and mindreading. It was a one-man show and I'd imagine pretty personalised. Some years ago Ali Bongo put me in touch with a university theatre group her...

Alan Alan R.I.P.

Alan Alan passed away last night in hospital. Alan had toured the world with his escape act, headlining shows, circuses and arenas. Re: Inventor of this old trick? - Tube magic

There are two types of Ghost Tube and they each have a technical name and I'm not sure which is which. The old style inner tube tapers and is attached to the inner side of the outer tube, usually along a seam. This allows you to cram in silks and ribbons for later production. Paul Daniels had the id...

Re: The Perfect Retention

The best retention vanish of a coin I have seen wasn't technically a Retention Vanish but it looked far better than any Retention Vanish.

It was Goshman's throwing the coin from one hand to the other. Even magicians would swear they saw the coin travel across.

When I started getting magic catalogues (from age 10/11) and reading magic books from the library or from bookshops (Norman Hunter, Bruce Elliott, Jean Hugard), I developed an awareness of different kinds of magic and its principles. I thought Smoothini did a great job. Yes, it was a lot of fast direct magic in a short space of time, but all strong and visual. Re: Looking for name of effect

There's an early version in 13 Steps but the person who developed it as we know it is Arthur Emerson called The Pegasus Page, published in Sam Dalal's SWAMI magazine, issue 13, January, 1973.

A very practical method is Docc Hilford's, 'Wizard's Manual'.

I'm not American but can add a personal viewpoint and observation. FISM is traditionally European. It is six days - six full days, which is a lot for any conference.
