Only about ten, fifteen years ago in Brooklyn you could walk into a local bodega and get Tallys. Not anymore.

Re: NY Times Review of Dealt

The Times review is way off in my opinion. This is a wonderful film, and will have a wider appeal than just the magic community. BTW, I interviewed the director, Luke Korem, yesterday, and he said that the DVD would have bonus features with Steve Forte, Armando Lucero, and Jason England showing thei...

Re: Forces

Mark, as Andy found out to his surprise, the concept of forcing a card was known beforehand by about 95% of the lay participants. So nothing was exposed. One can perform many years and still be deluded as to what the audience has actually perceived or brings to the experience. Admittedly it's a smal...

Did you read how the experiment was set up? No exposure.

Aside from that, any opinion about which card forces are least suspicious?

Forces

Andy does a small focus group test, asking 22 people, "Which of six card forces seemed most fair?"

The results are surprising.

Sure, it's a very small sample, but it's worth reading and considering.

Your opinion?

The Beginning of the Sentence

At the Starbucks at the hotel where the Genii Convention was held. I heard the following snippet of conversation from someone to his companions: "...Well, it's the greatest effect in all of magic." I strained to hear the rest of the conversation but I didn't want to be too rude. Especially...

Yes, Matching The Cards. Other standouts for me: Caveney's lecture on Chung Ling Soo and later, his coffee-filled cup in hoop toss; Axel Adler's amazing three-legged and later, four arms routine; Haken Berg's hilarious mechanical Dove Act; Peter Samelson's really touching version of Seven Keys, a pl...

Re: Genii Convention

That performance of Jared Kopf as Vernon was as impressive an acting job as I've ever seen on stage. Think Hal Holbrook doing Mark Twain. That's how good it was. He didn't break character for an instant--even when taking questions from the audience. And his execution of Vernon's magic was damn good ...

Jon, October 2017 MUM, Eric Lewis has a stand up version of Wild Card with Jumbo Cards. It includes a Hamman Count handling that might fit your criteria. Not a shuffle, but a logical display for an audience in front of you.

I saw the film Dealt today, the new documentary by Luke Korem about Richard Turner. It's a wonderful film. It's a film even your magic-neutral Significant Other will enjoy. Yes, it's about card magic, seconds, false shuffles, but it's so much more. It's a movie about card magic the way Searching For...

You can do what Simon Lovell used to do--do the whole shuffled deck story impromptu for real. I saw him do it twice in a row.

By the way didn't he also have a story deck for children--Who Killed Lilly Longlegs or something like that?
