Re: David Pogue on why products fail.

Ironically, Pogue's "missing manual" series fell into the very same Upgrade Paradox trap, eventually becoming parodies of themselves. Perhaps that is where he experienced it first hand, which allowed him to write informed about it, rather than simply regurgitate what others have written a...

Re: Will Tsai - Youtube Responds on ethics of VFX ;-)

For the most part this discussion is beyond me. Call me ignorant. I look at magic in much simpler terms. But I spotted two things I can comment on. Particularly the second one will confuse some, so that will be fun :-) second you claim that magicians will use any technology to create their magic. ex...

Re: Mike Close Resigns as Editor of M-U-M magazine

It really depends on the size of the magazine. With MUM it is a one-man-job and therefore the person needs to not only be a decent writer but also have a network in magic as well as be informed about it. With larger magazines the editor in chief does not necessarily need to be a subject domain speci...

I don't agree at all with your characterization. Yes, the word subterfuge, being a synonym of trick and con, does not come unexpected in books of magic and gambling. Yet, Erdnase uses it 4 times and one of these 4 instances is in the title of his book!! The book is 50k words long. That is Erdnase is...

I think the technique could be applied. What words stand out in Expert compared to other similar works (Sachs, Hoffmann, Roterberg, etc.)? And for that matter, what words stand out in Gallaway's books compared to other works on print estimation? If the two sets of words have strong overlap, you'd h...

My guess is 'finger', 'blind', 'jog', 'shuffle', 'palm', and similar technical terms. To make the descriptions clear one is forced ...
