Re: ERDNASE
If you were seriously trying to hide your identity- not so the public doesnt know but so anyone you may know personally doesnt figure it out- would you just reverse your name? Why are you assuming this is what Erdnase was trying to do? It could be that he didn't really care, and it's just an accide...
Re: ERDNASE
The tired issue of trying to put a deck of cards in his hands- that is an invalid argument. It's not at all invalid, but it's certainly Chris's argument! Indeed many (if not all) of your points are Chris's points! Interesting. Chris knows I agree with him - so what. I dont think you could prove he ...
Re: ERDNASE
To me that made more sense. He just thought it was a good name to use as it was a word he was familiar with. Why cant it just be that simple?. To others it makes more sense that the author left behind clues for readers to follow a trail. A reversal or anagram of his name is one clue. You suggest re...
Re: ERDNASE
None of you know who I am and Im sure you guys could care less what I think but I’ve studied the ERDNASE issue long enough to come to a conclusions. I believe Chris is right. You guys- you’ve spent too much time in love with the wrong angle. All that name backwards stuff- no. Take all the Sanders an...
Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Performer - why cant someone interested in magic, learn a bunch of card tricks and then at some point play cards, start using some slieght of hand to cheat, then start a deep study of cheating techniques, then become a cardsharp? That doesnt seem too far fetched for me. Because magicians have led s...
Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Well I like the 'earth nose' trail. I also like the anagram but thats just because I like anagrams. It just doesnt seem likely to me that this is the case here. My thought is if he wanted to hide his name, why risk it on a simple anagram? Too easy to figure out from those around him that may have be...
Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Leonard- to be exact, we should be looking at authors that would have set a precedent in the 1800's. Buckethead? Jim Morrison? That is hilarious.
Makes more sense that Erdnase is the german nickname "earth nose" and that our author was of German descent.

Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Bill- Then it is quite obvious that you have not seen Felix The Cats classic version of "Cups And Hairballs"
Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Bill... really? You name two authors closely related to the research on Erdnase? Give me a break- the theory that Erdnase swapped his letters around surely gave them the idea to do that with their names! Are you kidding? Name two non- magicians because most magicians are aware of this theory and the...
Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Mr Leonard, please pardon my hyperbolic absolute but please name me one author
in the last 120 years that has simply scrambled the letters of his true name to arrive at a pseudonym so that I may humbly stand corrected.
I like the German 'Erdnase nickname' theory. It makes more sense to me.

Re: The Hunt For Erdnase
Brad - if you read the review there is a meanstreak in it that brings up topics that have nothing to do with the review. Bill - did you read the book or Chris' posts? There is some info on him performing magic. Performer - why cant someone intrested in magic, learn a bunch of card tricks and then at...
The Hunt For Erdnase
Wow! What a terrible review. Now I know not to trust John Lovicks reviews. That was grossly over biased IMHO. I read Chris Wasshubers posts in his news letter as he was researching and I was fascinated by his discoveries. There was a very mean spirited tone to the review that had nothing to do with ...

Re: The Contents of The Secrets of So Sato
Hello Richard. Hope you had a blast at Genii live I mean Magic Live! Was surprised to hear about the end of Magic magazine. I think it's in the title; 'Magic' as a magazine title doesn't seem to have the longevity of a great title like say.. GENII! (Remember the short lived Magic mag in the 70's, I ...

Re: Cards with slots
Not sure if it's the same thing I saw. From what I remember the person that wrote the article went on to show how cutting the slots with different angles and by adding more cards, a card could move around to different locations in the fan. I could swear it was maybe in Loadstones or something. It wa...

Cards with slots
Hello, Im trying to find which issue in the last few years had an article about cutting slots in the playing cards so that when you turn them they change position in a fan of cards. Does anyone recall this article from few years ago?

Re: New Criss Angel show packed with magic and mood swings
Thats always been my complaint- that fowl mouth. I admit- I personally curse like a sailor but I dont want to hear it in a magic show. Wheres the prestige? Wheres the class? That doesnt show honor or respect for our art. Trying too hard to relate on a street level. I personally cant stand that rock-...

Thank you. I take it this book is not a lost classic in line with EATCT or The Discoverie Of Witchcraft. Is the Cremer book a completely different book?

The Secret Out
This is a book printed in 1859 that a used bookstore friend of mine has for sale. I'm interested if the contents is worth studying. Has anyone ever heard of it or read it? Can anyone offer a review?

Weren't there two sets of those engraved cups? Dai's worn and tattered ones were later swapped with the newer set? I think i read that in Genii.

Ok thanks. I first saw this handling as a kid in a magic set. It was on a pamphlet called 'the ten best card tricks' or something. That would be 36 years ago.

Oil and water question
Is anyone familiar with the version of oil and water that uses red and blue backed cards? I think it uses 3 red and 3 black pipped cards, the backs of three are red and the backs of three are blue. Richard, Jon, or someone must know this version. Thanks.
