Re: Magicians Documentary

I found the documentary to be both brave and depressing. Very unblinking eye at the reality of magic as a profession. In many ways, Magic is the hardest of all the entertainment professions. Like stand up comedy, unless you are part of a team, it is long hours alone, on the road, and the skill requi...

Re: Daryl's Death at The Magic Castle

How incredibly sad. I got started in magic in the 90's after walking into a vegas magic shop and picking up the first volume of Daryl's Encyclopedia of card sleights. The circumstances surrounding his death sound odd and I personally would hesitate to infer a motive. As we learned from the suicide d...

EITHER: the videos are not in the public domain, in which case neither you, nor Marcelo have the right to post them on youtube. OR: the videos are in the public domain, which would mean that anyone can use them. Nothing you have mentioned would entitle you to any ownership of the videos, so no theft.

Harry Lorayne's New Home

Some of you may know that Harry Lorayne was recently banned on The MagicCafe for defending himself against a troll (in true Harry Lorayne style of course). Then I was banned for calling attention to Harry's ban. Happy to say that someone was mad enough about it to start a new alternative to the Magi...

Jonathan, my point is that when we talk about art, the viewer is as much a part of the experience as the creator. for the performing arts, less so. When I see someone sawing a woman in half, all things being equal, I'm going to have the same experience of the illusion as anyone else. The experience ...

For me, the question of "what is art" comes down to "intention". Art has no intention. The performing arts entire raison d'ĂȘtre is intention: the intention to entertain, the intention to mystify, the intention of making us think or feel certain emotions. In the performing arts, w...

Only a magician could have liked that bit. It fell incredibly flat, took up too much time, and was a long way to go for some dumb jokes. I thought it was a complete disaster. Fortunately, the show was so incredibly boring, I'm sure few but the diehards were awake to see it.
