Re: Will Tsai - Youtube Responds on ethics of VFX ;-)

Over the last several years, I have come to learn that magicians are a peculiar lot. Not so long ago, a video appeared on the internet showing a magician performing coin sleights that seemed impossible, even to magicians, some of whom questioned the performance as being camera trickery. Just for kic...

"That is the greatest close up magic I have ever seen in my life," said a judge. Either he was "fooled" (no, I don't like the word, either) or at least was entertained, as apparently were the rest of the audience. Unless, of course, the whole thing was a put on. At any rate, he w...

I had a key with the same gimmick when I was a very young magician, bought from the Douglas catalogue. I believe the instructions were to attach it to the back of one hand while showing the palms empty and slip it into one hand while turning the hands over to show the backs. I never thought of attac...

Mr. Riser, after reading your last post here I am thinking that I have misperceived the purpose of the penny punch. I was under the impression that the device was to be used "on the fly" so to speak, or in other words used in performance to surreptitiously mark a card, possibly from a borr...

Are coin purses more common in Europe? (I think John Bannon published some routines using these: https://www.marcopoloni.com/TACCO-italian-leather-coin-purse.htm Lance Pierce also has an outstanding routine using one as well.) I would not doubt that someone somewhere uses a form of coin purse, but ...

Of all the items a magician might use as a prop, I believe the coin purse is probably the most obsolete (anachronous?). I have seen wallets with a coin pocket, but not lately. The closest thing to a coin purse I have ever seen anyone carry was one of those soft plastic, oval-shaped things with a sli...

This shows up frequently in Bicycle cards bought in a brick from Costco and Sam's Club. Definitely not something new, as I noticed this discrepancy in some decks more than fifty years ago when I first started to learn card magic. Not quite as far back as the 1800's, but close enough.
