Re: Old movies featuring magic..
It looks like "Midnight Shadow" video is no longer available. But, "The Lady Objects", a 1938 film with Roy Benson doing some magic is now on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oXXksGrXIE I haven't watched it fully, but he does a routine at 31:43 https://youtu.be/5oXXksGrX...
Re: ERDNASE
Recently, I got an email from The Miracle Factory, talking about an upcoming book "The Expert". In the email, Todd states: " I've finally located a long-lost film of the author of The Expert at the Card Table in action, demonstrating several examples of his card finesse in this brief ...

Geraldine Larsen/"Magic Lady and Boko"
While reading the memoirs of Jerry Maren, one of the original Munchkins in the Wizard of Oz film (he was one of the 3 Lollipop Guild members), I ran across a mention of a TV show "Magic Lady and Boko" where he accompanied Geraldine Larsen onscreen performing magic. The memoirs are titled &...

Re: Custom Tenyo Products
Mahdi, Your question reminded me of something done a few years back on a World Magic Shop episode with Dave and Craig. There's a thread on the Magic Cafe about this (search for "Pimp My Tenyo")- someone had gussied up a Crystal Cleaver to look quite fancy and they had it on the show, I bel...

Re: The other Channing Pollock
This is not magic-related, but I wanted to share, in case folks were interested: For the 'old movie' fans on the forum: Channing Pollock was the writer employed to rewrite and cut the German film "Metropolis" (1925, directed by Fritz Lang). You can read about his revisions on the Net; he s...

Re: Nudity in Magic
I recently re-read "The Last Magician" by Bruce Elliott. The lead character begins one act by producing a live Martian girl, nude, then magically produces clothing for her, piece-by-piece. (I hope I'm remembering correctly). It sounds like a good effect!

Interesting video!
On a similar theme, at least, I recently found this picture of Louis Brooks (1920s &30s movies):

and thought of Black Art as well.

Re: What Magic Item did You Get for the Holidays?
I picked up some items from the Ring sale (local) that my wife then gave to me: 1) Marc De Souza's Chain Gang - I learned a lot from Pop Haydn's DVDs, and figured there'd be some variation here 2) Spring loaded fox - I couldn't resist, even tho it isn't really magic -) 3) 2nd copy of favorite book &...

Re: Quieting a reel
To the original poster: did you have much trouble getting your reel apart to work on it? My Breese reel seems to be a sealed unit; I'd be hard pressed to open it without destroying/bending the case - but that may be my unfamiliarity with the right tools for the job. Have any of the magic magazines, ...

Re: Quieting a reel
I've been curious about this, while watching various "Silk Thru X" performances. Many (not all) include the magician making a masking noise at the time the reel operates - a whistle, a "Whoosh", etc. It doesn't seem to take much sound to cover - one lecture, the reel sound was qu...

Hi all, I am looking for a Same-Both-Sides deck, or in other words a deck of double-facers where every card has the same face on both sides. Chris, Richard,
It looks like the Genii November 1992 is the one you want. MagicPedia also lists Genii 1937 August.

feb 2009 issue out of order?
Richard, I was looking for the Feb. 2009 issue of Genii on the Ask Alexander database just now. I sorted the issues to "Sort by Date - Descending". The Feb. 2009 issue is not between the Mar and Jan 2009 issues as you'd expect; it's between Mar and Feb 2006. (Other sorts show the same prob...

Richard Kaufman wrote:The new Hammer Company's first film, "Wake Wood," is really good if you're into a nice retro-style horror film.
For those of you with NetFlix streaming capability, "Wake Wood" is available there for online viewing (I haven't watched it yet.)
