Interesting to see the breadth of work among the different writer/magicians and
how they used their manner of magic and writing, to see their works published.

Re: The Secret Society of Golden Age Magical Mystery Writers

The Man Who Explained Miracles, Douglas Greene's biography of John Dickson Carr, has several references to Carr's link with Clayton Rawson. There are also references to the Maskelyne Mysteries. The locked room mystery The Hollow Man, perhaps Carr's most famous book, makes use of a Maskelyne illusio...

Sweet article, Tom.

Raising a glass to Tim and his shop: both have been so dear to our community. I know I'll continue frequenting its online incarnation, with the hope of a new brick-and-mortar Midwest Magic in which to make a nuisance of myself soon.

The Secret Society of Golden Age Magical Mystery Writers

First, I want to say how beautifully this article was laid out in the March 2023 issue. Gorgeous work, Elizabeth Kaufman! Second, if you enjoyed the article, you might want to know that it is just the start of two scholarly papers slated for the forthcoming academic book by McFarland, Crime and Illu...

Thank you, Richard. As a side note, the application of the Teleport concept to a standard padded mailing envelope came even earlier, with the work of Daryl Bem (1990).

Thanks again.

Left-Handed: USPS Teleport Envelope Correction

I commend Jeff Prace for coming up with this practical application of the Ted Lesley Teleport Envelope. It is excellent. But it is also very, very close to the work of a pioneer in the field whose work has been ignored, and I'd like to correct the record. In 2002 (17 years ago!), prolific mentalism ...

Save a Magic Landmark

There's a magic landmark in Chicago that's in danger of demolition, but you could help save it. Here's the story: the building at 1800 Halsted that once housed the original Schulien's is at risk of being demolished and is on the official list of Most Endangered Historic Sites in Illinois. You know t...

Brilliant in so many ways! Just look at this thought process: by making the floating object a borrowed jacket instead of a silver ball, Raymond (1) automatically increases audience engagement, (2) creates a comedic situation between himself and the lender and (3) adds a layer of mystery to the levit...

In the 9/13 issue of Genii , Caleb Wiles had an interesting effect in his Ringside column called Eye of Tyr, adapted from a Wiseman and Lamont Color-Changing Deck effect with an assist from Matt Mello's "Stop." I like it; but for my own uses, I think it would be stronger if it were tighten...
