Coming on February 18 ... The March Issue of Genii Goes Live Online!

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c36/richard_kaufman1/Genii%202017-03%20Cover%20Facebook_zpszw7dkbyt.jpeg There seems to be a recent outbreak of good magicians performing one-man shows. We’ve covered several of these recently and will do more in the coming months. This issue we focus on Steve Vale...

Re: Most Influential Card Magician of 20th Century

Output volume counts for less. Marlo seems to have published most of what he thought of (including lots he didn't think of), making it difficult to find the good material among the crap. What counts most is that Vernon created a way of handling cards and a way to think about magic--he was the condui...

It's Vernon, and there's no question that it's Vernon. First on the east coast, later on the west coast. He covered it all, and inspired all.

Re: Vernon, Jennings, and Cervon

Vernon was a good friend, as many will attest. He was sometimes mean to people. He didn't treat his wife and kids very well, either, because he was interested in magic, not them.

I didn't write that sadism was the explicit goal, but it was certainly one of the results.

Re: Black Rabbit Rose in Hollywood

The snarky references to The Magic Castle come from bad reportage looking to create a fuss where none exists in order to attract attention to the article. A 40-seat open bar/theater is not, and is never going to be, any kind of competition to the Castle.

Re: Vernon, Jennings, and Cervon

He hoped that it would ignite creativity in each of them. But it was also a bit sadistic. Vernon was like a father to Jennings, which made the whole thing painful for Larry. It also created a mess with the crediting of some items.

But David is the hardest working person I've ever met, so he knows whereof he speaks. http://www.forbes.com/sites/danschawbel/2017/02/08/david-copperfield-how-he-became-the-worlds-most-successful-magic...

Re: What is your Unicorn Magic Book?

I don't see the point in wishing for something that's never going to happen instead of appreciating what you actually have. Max abandoned his Gilbreath book after Norman published his own book through H&R. There will never be a Fred Kaps book. The Jack Birnman book could happen but it will take ...

I really ought to get off my ass and finish that. The problem is that I have to relearn all 600 pages of material in order to pose for the 1500 photographs. That's months of work. I've been trying to years to figure out a way to get that done.

Re: Charlie Miller

There are many good touches on the Houdini/Erdnase change to decrease the amount of in and out movement. First is Vernon's idea of cupping the hand and then straightening the fingers as the hand is turned palm down over the card. This eliminates the outward movement completely. Only the flesh of the...
