Jonathan, you're asking for references to executing various card techniques with the cards held vertically , right? I'm also interested in that approach and would appreciate any references. I'm looking at that count by Farmer and some items which look as if they are done that way in Counthesaurus ....

Mark, folks - There's a chest-height version of Elmsley's count in print. The item as usually cited is the trick with tombstone cards. The cards are held faces-out toward the audience. To start - the deck needs to be in their hands. Also, they count.

If you want the cards displayed face up... have them count the cards that way to the table.

I like the tablecloth.

The impressive part is real-time selective blurring with an empty wineglass. For the card trick... ask the guy who's been doing that bit for years what he thinks of your version - better yet see how it works if you get a chance to perform it for him.

@Chris - Lybrary , folks There's a design matter (use this optical material in this way to make this happen) which pretty much amounts to "method". There's more than "credit" going on here since they table guys are not publishing an article in a magazine about their table design....
