Re: Tim Conover Has Taken His Life
Very sad news. I was fortunate to have attended the World Magic Summit many years ago when Tim won the close-up competition. The large attendance at the convention had to be divided into sections making it necessary for the competitors to perform twice. A very impressive group of magicians, includin...

Re: Expert Card Technique
Now while I agree that a man who walks out on his family has no character, there is still no relevance to making a statement about anyones character in this thread. You must have some axe to grind with Hugard? Did he question your character in the past?

Re: Video of Larry Jennings' Single Cup and Balls Routine
Richards comments really hit the nail on the head for me....especially when he mentioned the downfall of becoming infatuated with a sleight. I witnessed this first hand. There is always such a build up when you finally get to meet a magician with such a reputation preceding him....you want to be foo...

Re: Video of Larry Jennings' Single Cup and Balls Routine
Actually the best youtube comment was "I love how relaxed his right hand is" because it is real, valid sarcasm. Let's face it guys.....This was "Wide Open Larry" at his best. The comments in here can be amusing as well.... "I think that this clip illustrates why most cup and...

Re: Giacomo Bertini Lectures in New York City on April 28th
Does anybody know if Giacomo has any plans of visiting Michigan during his lecture tour? I didn't realize he was in the states....makes me want to sponsor his visit to Michigan myself.

Re: Dick Cavett Writes About Slydini in the New York Times
I thoroughly enjoyed the video footage of Slydini. It brought me back to my childhood when I really took interest in magic. I seem to remember a Cavett show where Slydini performed sponge ball magic with Cher sitting to his left. I have been unable to locate that particular footage. Am I remembering...

Re: Gambit Magazine
I look forward to receiving this new magazine. Just curious as to how long it takes to receive it in the states once ordered? I payed by Paypal awhile back and haven't heard anything....No emails or replies through Paypal saying when it is going to ship, etc... I know it has to travel "across t...

Re: Geoffrey Latta
Believe me this isn't worth starting a new thread. By the way, not everybody that is tough comes from Kentucky. I had my face to face years ago and it is Jamy who continually hides behind the pen with everyone he criticizes. This may surprise you, but I look forward to purchasing the Minch books on ...

Re: Geoffrey Latta
I was just making light of comment directed at me....won't happen again. I actually found the move in Shattering Illusions. Some people in here took my two earlier comments way too seriously. I thought that I was pretty clear that I was not taking a shot a Geoff Latta, nor making light of the loss o...

Jeff,
Thank you for your mature response. My messages in here apparently went completely over your head.
Where would I find the "d**k-move"? Is it in some secret appendix of Erdnase?

Re: Geoffrey Latta
I am not trying to compare Geoff Latta to Steve Forte. I agree that would be pointless (gambling moves vs. magic, etc..). The point I was making dealt with the hype that is so overdone in our industry. Just mentioning an "exclusive/underground" video tape brings out "magic dumb" ...

Re: Geoffrey Latta
More BS hype in magic. This is nothing against Geoff Latta or Jamy Ian Swiss's heartfelt loss of a friend (I lost my best friend to cancer at age 38....it is terrible to say the least). It is just that nobody can measure up to those first three paragraphs of his tribute....."He was that good. N...

Re: Bob Stencel Passes...
Bob Stencel was my first mentor in magic here in Michigan before moving to Oklahoma. I'll miss our phone conversations and his surprise mailings. I was amazed at the amount of work and detailed thinking contained in his letters. I will also miss his stories....he took private lessons from Slydini. H...

Re: SPECIAL OFFER: Get one Year of Genii Free When You Subscribe by Dec.31
Quick question.... What is the cutoff date for a new subscription to begin? If I respond in the next week or so, would I receive the December or January issue as the start of the subscription? I usually buy each issue at the shop locally anyway and I do not want to possibly miss the December issue w...

Re: Steve Freeman
Disparity1, You can find the New Yorker article at the Ricky Jay website (archives section). It was written by Mark Singer. Ricky Jay is certainly lucky to have befriended David Mamet, by the way. Given the timing of the article, the books I believe that the article was referencing were the Vernon C...

Re: Steve Freeman

Re: Steve Freeman
I think that Roger M. hit the nail on the head when he said Steve Freeman is in the Percy Diaconis and Ricky Jay camp. Here's the thing, these guys stay in their own circle because you would actually be disapointed by watching their work. Now, I am not naive enough to say that these guys are bad at ...
