Who Originated This Card Routine?

I don't know who I learned this from but here's the effect: 1. Card is selected and lost in the deck. 2. Volunteer freely selects four indifferent cards. 3. Volunteer eliminates all indifferent cards out of the four except for one. 4. Volunteer names the card selected, magician does his magic over t...

Our Culture's Venue?

It's easy to see, that if you like close-up magic, restaurant venue's are for you. And I believe in our culture or 'time', performing in restuarants are still a viable place to get paid as an entertainer and be taken seriously. I would say 85% of the material in magicdom right now for us is specific...

Last week I posted a story (agony of defeat) regarding my horrible mistake with CTW. Well for those who were engaged in that conversation you may like hearing the little addition to the story. I'm at my regular gig tonight, I'm walking along and all of the sudden 'the guy' comes up to me. Surprising...

I'm laughing Quentin as I read your post! You hit the nail right on the head. BTW Quentin- I have your video on 'the hank'. Such a strong routine for kids. Remember seeing the clips of a skier going lighting fast down the hill, then all of the sudden it's chaos. Something-whatever that something was- causes the skier to lose control and he goes crashing terribly. Even from the comfort of your own couch you can feel the pain. The next day when that skie...

I was enthusiatically reading Mr. Giobbi's article-which I love to do- and noticed something interesting. I've never run across info on preparing a new deck of cards and then resealing them. Recently I saw a nicely dressed magician reach into his bag and get out a large knife. He was using it for a cut and restored rope routine. I liked the image of the large knife and 3-piece suit. I believe maybe everyone becomes just a LITTLE more alert about what is getting ready to happen next. May...

Stuart, I agree, everyone should make magic our own instrument of expression. But, if an instrument, it must have scales, it must have notes, or patterns to go by. I don't see that in Derren's work.
