As I mentioned in another thread, I am developing a whole show based on the novelty products of SS Adams, Johnson Smith, etc.. The premise of my show is: "what if the products actually worked as promised (or imagined)" including x-ray spex I presume? And was it Adams that had the giant ca...

Did this thread get moved? Did it begin again with a different title? How did the shows work out? I like cliffhangers, but... Well I can safely say that I did a lot of thinking and writing about my (2010) show concept, and even found a performing arts venue and a beautiful accordion player to provi...

well, both Eric and Rudy did the act from their youtube video, so it does seem like a bit of an unfair bait and switch to invite these guys on the show and then bash them for performing the act you asked them to perform (neither performance was 100% flawless, but they were both close enough) I do th...

Tom, I love reading your column! And I am very excited to launch a theatrical show.
Titles ideas:
"The Treachery of Images: This is not a Magic Show"
"Secret Powers" (not a very imaginative, but it ties in with a script I have in mind)
"The Interesting Visitor"

My favorite Genii feature was David Regal's Celebricadabra article. Although that was split over 2 issues, so I guess if I have to pick one, then I choose the one that included the crystal card bonus trick (July?)
The Steve Cohen issue would be a close second.

I think the fundamental issue here is "what is a trick worth?" Which is confusing, because pricing ranges so widely. I don't think its fair to compare the price of work released by a single individual to the collected works of 100s of people. That's like comparing mom&pop to CostCo, of...

From the creator's standpoint, if you've invented a trick that is worthy of being marketed, is there a better option than producing it as a DVD? I would submit that there is not. The only other options are magazine submissions, instant downloads, or booklets. Magazines are fine if you aren't interes...
