Sadly (for me), I never saw his illusion show but I did see his hypno show. It stands out in my memory as being a wonderful act and much more sophisticated then many others.

Re: Eugene Burger Has Died at 78

The last time I saw him was early April of this year. My wife and I got to hang out with him over a few meals. He seemed to be in great shape. We made plans to get together in a few months. My sadness at the loss I felt on hearing the news was tempered by how glad I feel that I got to know him - eve...

Bob. You don't need me to add my praise for all this original and creative work. But you have it anyway, along with my thanks for stopping with this 8th addendum. It's all too much for my poor brain, and what you've put together so far will take me months (years) to work my way through.

Seats are very limited but if you're near London at the end of August there' an opportunity to see some great magic in a small venue and even participate in the second annual Science of Magic (SOMA) conference. We (Reel Time Images) will be filming there for our latest documentary. It's a project is...

I didn't know (until Wikipedia told me) that in 2002 Silvio Mantelli petitioned Pope John Paul ll to declare St. John Bosco the Patron St of stage Magicians. Today I saw a tweet from The Mysterium Show linking to this article with the wonderful subtitle "The brains of the patron saint of stage ...

Hi Mark. You can start here if you're interested in what's known about the original game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot_card_games Apparently there's a lot of textual evidence in the historical record. I'd be happy to lend you a DVD of my documentary on the Tarot if we can figure out where and...

Re: Tarot cards that feel like playing cards?

One book that explored the idea of magic trick using tarot cards was Stephen Minch's Book of Thoth (a title it shares with Crowley's book on the subject). It might be of interest to some to note, that while the tarot is understood as the ancestor of the playing card, modern scholarship has turned th...

As to the question of how he treated his friends. While you might get a better, and fuller answer from biographer David Ben, or those few of Vernon's confidants, like Persi Diaconnis, Max Maven, and Ricky Jay, who are still with us. You won’t get one as pithy as the statement by Persi that ends the ...

I agree Mark. Seeing the animals confined in small cages is disturbing to most of us. I feel the same way about animals in the zoo, even in landscaped containment. But really I'm not sure that they feel the same -- though I prefer to err on the side of leaving them alone. Of course, though I hope it...
