Yes. I’m not claiming to be an authority on the subject and it sounds as though you have some knowledge of post war sensibilities. I was referring to the fact that his tours of the U.K. were undoubtedly very successful which, speaking as someone who wasn’t there, surprised me somewhat! I am certainl...

Re: A new book about Kalanag

I have Val Andrews’ book ‘Seven Keys to Kalanag’ and I found it fascinating. There are elements to the story that are almost unbelievable nowadays. Kalanag’s dominance over the German magic scene was overwhelming thanks to his promotion by Hitler as a sort of ‘official overseer’. Looking back from t...

Re: "Modern Wonder" Penguin download

I'd say not ridiculous. There's a pretty detailed description of each effect where one can decide for oneself if the various updates are suitable. For example, there's a no-pocket version of an effect which may suit the clothing requirements of some. The tone of the ad and video seem quite respectf...

"Modern Wonder" Penguin download

This has become available. I wonder what people think?

By implication, anyone who performs this material using Tommy's methods and presentations isn't a 'modern magician"!

Sounds ridiculous to me - or am I being unkind?

Frank Csuri notes

I’m reading Vernon’s Lost Inner Secrets 3 (again) In the foreword Stephen Minch mentions that vol 4 was in preparation and the material would be mainly drawn from Frank Csuri’s notes. Unfortunately this never appeared as announced. Vol 4 was published as a biography. I’m aware that these notes ‘move...

Don't forget that much of the material that appeared in The excellent 'Vernon Chronicles' series came from the Cervon notebooks, so if you want a painless introduction to them, you should get these.

There is definitely a copy in The Magic Circle library. I spent a couple of hours reading it and making notes two or three years ago. I remember the head librarian, Peter, keeping a beady eye on me while I studied it!

Certainly a rare book!

I too was incredibly impressed with some of the above: Williamson - almost everything he did! Mullica's cigarette routine Bob Read's bottle production. Fooled me even with the explanation! Harbin's performance of the Zig Zag. I'd like to add: Tommy Wonder's C&B routine. Jerry Sadowitz - the UK's...

Sounds like I've got the ones I want then Richard. As a side issue - do you know why the Vernon Chronicles books stopped after vol 3? In the foreword it mentions more material drawn from the Castle notes and other sources were on the way. Vol 4, however, was the biography and, after that, nothing!

Re: Best Version of Lubor Fiedler's Gozinta Boxes EVER

It's a pity the Tardis isn't square! That's easily explained by a distortion in the space/time continuum, caused by a reversal in the polarity of the neutron flow. This has affected the TARDIS Chameleon Circuit, resulting in a square police box! Simple!……... …………..it's either that, or the Blinovitc...

i see. The problem is that Daleks/Cybermen are not bigger on the inside than the outside,so this means that the presentation wouldn't work. The long term premise of the series is that the inside of the Tardis exists in a different dimension than the outside, so it can be larger than the outside. Per...

Re: Best Version of Lubor Fiedler's Gozinta Boxes EVER

As a "Doctor Who" fan, it occurs to me that the outer box could be decorated as the TARDIS exterior, and the inner box as the TARDIS interior (complete with roundels and Time Rotor etc). The performer then demonstrates that the TARDIS is "dimensionally transcendental" (i.e. bigge...

You could look at it the other way round. Rather than the series not being compelling, the people who purchased vol 1 are holding onto it ( and maybe the others in the set) while those who missed out on vol 1 are selling their later volumes because it's now difficult to obtain the first and thus com...
