Re: Latta Pass

I first saw Geoff Latta's pass at a NY Magic Symposium. I had never met him, but had heard amazing reports of his pass techniques. So, I'm walking by a table, there's a couple of guys "doing cards" and one guy is doing an amazing pass. It clicked in my head, I asked him his name and sure e...

Re: Marking Double-Blank Cards

A solution from the gaming table: Leave the card(s) in direct sunlight and use photons to "stain" the card(s) which will now show as muted white vs. any cards not in the sun.

Just learned this 48 hours ago.
Subsequently cleaned up the transfers via proper packet positioning...and relaxing.
A cool version, thrown into the pool of possibilities, from my fav.

Re: On the Pass

Appreciate the Howie Schwarzman video link.

He gave a mini-lesson in expert card technique---listen to all of his comments and stop motion the video during the sleights. Nice stuff.

Re: On the Pass

RE: Howie Schwarzman Howie performed the pass for me in the following manner: Card selected, card replaced, deck immediately dropped to table. Per Richard, if he actually performed the pass, it was awesome. And, the dropping the deck to the table logic holds up just fine. Richard , thank you for th...

Re: On the Pass

Recently, I have re-engaged with the Turnover Pass and it's multitude of variants--including center reverses (Marlo?) This pass may be one of the most over-looked, utilitarian sleights of all time, primarily because of its perceived angle issues (sensitivity? yes, issue? no). However, it is so diver...

Re: DEREK DINGLE'S Slow Motion McDonald's Aces

I agree with Mr. Kaufman. Run through it a couple of times. It is a very satisfying effect that is fun to perform. Depending upon the audience, this could potentially have "more" impact. A lot of it has to do with the story. I'm thinking along the lines of Vernon's "Cutting the Aces&q...

DEREK DINGLE'S Slow Motion McDonald's Aces

I recently re-found Derek Dingle's Slow Motion McDonald's Aces , page 94, Kaufman, The Complete Works of Derek Dingle. Utilizes 2 double faced aces. The initial ace(s) switch is ultra clean. The laydown is neat. The aces individually vanish (nicely done) and are shown to exchange with a card in the ...

I always wanted to develop an ace assembly using Gaetan Bloom's 3-card monte gimmicks.

Ever been done? Perhaps even with a double-double layer Bloom gimmick?

Appreciate you taking time to share your insights, guys! I still remember the first time I saw the effect performed by a demonstrator at Tannen's. Regardless of the vanishes, I found the initial switch and layout to be pivotal and intriguing. That is the foundation for the routine.

Re: Vernon classic photo with Ace of Clubs

If this "blocking" has interest, you may want to review Minch's re-description of the DPS in Chronicles Vol #3; page 15, as another potential alternative. There are a myriad of ways to get into position. I have regained my perspective on the beautiful simplicity of a card transformation. V...

Re: Vernon classic photo with Ace of Clubs

Jonathan, I found it in one of Minch's books "The Vernon Chronicles"--but can't remember which volume.

I found it during a re-read of an effect/sleight that I originally had no interest in, so I by-passed the entry and never read it.

Vernon classic photo with Ace of Clubs

Until I saw a recent video online, I never realized the significance of the classic pictures of Vernon, (both young and old) with a cigarette/cigar in his right hand, holding his left forearm and a deck of cards face up, with the Ace of Clubs on the face, in his left hand. I simply thought it was a ...

YOUR THOUGHTS? From Roberto Giobbi's comments (Genii August 2008) on Jay Marshall's notes from a Vernon lecture: Al Goshman is good because he does direct effects. Juan Tamariz always tells me that a trick must follow Carlyle's Law. Francis Carlyle is supposed to have said that, for an effect to be ...
