Re: Disappearing Magic Cafe!
As an IT guy, days/weeks to reinstall an OS and recover a backup is very much out of the norm. There's either something else going on (people frantically indexing tapes to find when the last successful backup was actually done) or the cafe's IT people are very much under-qualified. A full OS rebuild...

Now now, Richard, the guy did make us a generous offer: $300 takes it! It's almost 10% of that $2k price, ain't that a sweet deal?

Roger, have you read Steve Forte's article on Erdnase in Genii? It is also available on the Genii archive and may prove illuminating.

Re: 2.5 hours until Derren (UK TV HEADS UP)
The name is "Derren Brown Investigates". He goes around and investigates psychics, ghost hunters, etc. At least that's what I got from the preview I've watched. Since I'm not in the UK though, it'll be at least... uh, a day or two before I can watch the premiere I guess.

Regarding the listing that sold this week, eBay does not have the resources to police every listing to ensure what is pictured is what is as described, that is the sellers responsibility. 100 million listings makes that a pretty difficult task. Of course. Unfortunately, they also don't seem to have...

There is a Drake softbound edition on ebay right now: HERE However, while the seller is describing this copy as a 1902 first edition, it is not the actual 1902 first edition (which wasn't softbound) nor the 1905 drake softbound first edition (which had a yellow cover). The seller has been repeatedl...

Goody! Would love it if that fixed it. Thanks for the tip, I shall get that process started out tonight. I don't believe it's a problem with the batch or anything, it's probably a combination of the thinner than usual stock and the changes in temperature during shipping. I quite like the feel of the...

I remember that some of my first magic tapes were the old cigarette magic series from Tom. I had a blast with those, they were as entertaining as they were educational. I still have them at home even though I haven't had a VHS player in years.

He does deliver eventually, but timeliness seems to be a recurring issue.

You put a lower price to entice more people, but you pump up the shipping as a hidden fee. It's the eBay way.

Not sure which would be the best place to put this, but here is probably OK. A quick question on the L&L DVD release of the Revelations tapes - what format did they come in? I received from someone 8 DVDs in cases with covers printed with a low-quality color printer, and the DVDs are all recorda...

Mea culpa (sort of) - skipping SWE's description of the three-card stock wasn't a good idea. BBS? Reminds me of the days when I dialed up on my 19.2kbaud modem, on my 286 computer, and a Hercules graphics card. The first thing that came to my mind was "A 19.2k modem on a 286? They aren't even from the same decade!" The 286 was introduced in 1982 and was in use during that decade....

This new way I hope will be much better. I still have no desire to deal with RNT ever again but perhaps new customers will get good service. Heck, OK service would be an improvement, at least in my case. The new owners really don't have to do much to provide better service than the old.
