Re: magician as an actor

Ofcourse a drama school/acting training is a great advantage to performing magic. So many skilled magicians seem unable to project their personality beyond the footlights, and some don't even know how to walk on a stage. The actual performance of the tricks is really the least important thing. Stage...

Re: magician as an actor

I do see you repeating yourself Roger. No doubt that is the sort of thing that actors do when they forget their lines. Another reason not to study acting. Anyway, I am glad you are here. It might liven things up somewhat. I do find this place a little dreary on occasion. Rather intellectual mind yo...

Re: magician as an actor

I see that people are talking about me, which is never a bad thing I suppose. I am not sure what to make of Tarotist's comments. I would agree that I am somewhat unscripted, which has served me well over the years, as I have found some scripted performers to be terribly dull. Not all, naturally. I a...

Is anyone on here going to KAX later this month in Oxnard? It is the second year of this convention for children's entertainers, and was terrific last year! It is put on by Steve Axtell and Mark Daniel :) JR

You might want to add more details about the book to your Web site. For example hardcover or paperback, page length, with or without illustrations or photographs. Good luck. Good idea. Thanks! Re: The Art of the Con

Interesting thread. It amazes me that a simple discussion on a book/books can lead to so much acrimony. This is why I feel my soon to be published tome: "The Spiritual Stage" will be a help to those magicians whose sole intent seems to be to put down fellow magi for all sorts of reasons wh...

Great question Richard! It really depends very much on the severity of the fight. In my Kidabra lecture, I was fully aware that the kids were actually having fun. I will admit that one of them did get hurt, and returned to their seat in tears. However, a few seconds later the kid got back on the sta...

In an odd way, Potty, I think the first chapter is possibly the weakest, so if you enjoyed that, you will find it goes uphill from there. Pages 183 to 185 are my favourite! JR

Richard is right about the dealers at Blackpool. Many I spoke to were way down on sales. It was not just the FISM competitors, but some blamed it on bargains being snatched up at the Thursday auction, and people spending all their money there. JR
