Re: Darwin Ortiz R.I.P

If you haven't SEEN Darwin Ortiz perform you need to find Scams & Fantasies Volume Two so that you can watch him perform Appointment in Samara. It is, hands down, the best card trick performance I've ever seen. The woman who is assisting him is visibly affected by a card trick . The amount of ge...

If you are looking for a lot of cards at once get ahold of Chris Aguilar's Vector images and head over to Make Playing Cards .com I recently had them make a couple of prototype decks for a "Press your luck" dice and card game I created and the quality of the printing was exceptional. Now I...

Another vote for the Mark Wilson Course. There are almost always copies at the local Half Price Books in the Seattle area.

There's really solid material there too. I have a friend who did the Cups and Balls routine form MWC in his professional work table side and behind the bar for years.

"Why create if it will just be stolen?" Because it's what creative people do. And I suspect most of what is stolen is what not-creative people do when trying to create. There aren't as many villains in the world as we like to think. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately...

Re: Why I'm Leaving Magic; Not Renewing Genii

It might be worthwhile to point out that most folks have seen a card trick, but fewer have had their palm read. And among the groups of people who have seen a card trick, most did not seek it out, while those have have previously had their palm read probably did. These probably contribute to what Mr...

Over the last 30 years or so in magic I've noticed that many effects are overwhelming popular because their entry point is so low. People love a trick with an Elmsley count.

Oddly, if you add in a Jordan Displacement you lose a large percentage of the brotherhood.

That's some fine close up magic.

Re: Sending good thoughts to Max Maven

Phil Goldstein was one of the first names I learned in magic, from his wonderful packet tricks. Max Maven was the very first name I learned in mentalism due to a mutual friend here in Seattle who put me on the right path.

I can't imagine how he must feel, but maybe we can help him not feel alone.

Also Marlo's Kick-Count (or, "Kick-off Count"). Your right hand needs to be contacting the deck, so it may not be as good as some of these other techniques. but I think it's more elegant than just thumb- riffling because there's no movement or tension of the right hand. Yehuda This is pre...

That's exactly what I'm saying. The act of being selfish ultimately causes more good than bad. If you define existing as good and not existing as bad, then by trashing the planet you cause a different set of people to be born. And as such you are doing them a favour by helping to bring them into ex...

The same argument means we can trash the planet and future generations cannot be mad at us - since the act of trashing the planet will cause an entirely different set of people to be born. As such - they will have owed their very existence to the fact that the previous generation selfishly trashed ...
