Re: LF: Skinner's Professional Close Up DVDs
You need to get these DVDs if you don't have them: The Legendary Repertoire of Michael Skinner. It's a three volume set of Skinner in home performances. The closest you'll get to seeing Skinner in his prime along with the Johnny Carson videos on YouTube. Not tutorial videos but you can learn a lot b...

Re: Looking for al Stranger miracle poker machine
Jack--as I understand it a poker hand of 5 cards is inputed into the device. A hole card is designated by the spectator and the device somehow knows the identity of that card. Is that right?

Re: RIP David Roth
Roth's abilities went beyond coins. His work on the chop cup elevated it from the guessing game. He could do the cups and balls very well, and his three ball routine was superb. His general knowledge of magic and its history was impressive. He was among the next wave of magicians like Steve Freeman,...

Re: ERDNASE
Possibly. But will you find someone of the same time frame with a similar published record, whose name is a perfect anagram for S.W. Erdnase, who has written the same number of identical phrases, or more, and for whom there is other substantial evidence supporting their candidacy? The other substan...
Re: ERDNASE
Brad--when you pointed out that the use of identical interesting and idiosyncratic words by both authors would be more convincing evidence of the same authorship, you neglected to mention that both identical words had to have the same meaning. Out of left field you now raised the bar and added anoth...
Re: ERDNASE
Bob - your case fails to convince. Take the copious draughts example - if that word choice had been repeated you would have a convincing case. But it isn’t. Just a paragraph on consuming knowledge which is hardly a unique concept. In your examples either the most interesting and idiosyncratic word ...
Re: ERDNASE
Great comparisons Bob! The example comparing the same distinctive phrases is amazing!
Re: ERDNASE
Another interesting and entertaining video by Romanoff. Mr. Hatch's anecdote about Alexander presenting his candidate in their hotel room the night before the Conference was worth the price of admission. The writing similarities between Erdnase and Sanders are too compelling to ignore. I wish Mr. Ha...

Re: One of the best handling decks out there
Alfred is spot on. A standard Bike is my current deck these days and it works fine. I don't do table riffle shuffle work so I don't need a high performance deck. With basic and intermediate sleights and moves, almost any deck this side of a plastic drugstore cheapie can get the job done. Unless you ...

Bergeron's Ring on Stick was the best version I had ever seen. He used the Leipzig method for the middle second phase without the extra ring. It was all bluff and coupled with a beautiful sound effect to make the audience believe the ring slid down the stick. Amazing! Absolutely amazing! RIP Bev.

LF: Bob Swadling's Homing Card
I'm looking for Bob Swadling's Homing Card. I purchased one from a seller in the U.K. back in October and it's been trapped in U.S. Customs for over 4 weeks now. I'm tired of waiting and it may never escape that black hole. Does anybody have an extra one and willing to sell it?

A packet trick I purchased from the U.K. back in late October has been sitting in Customs here in the U.S. since November 2nd. It hasn't moved an inch. It's not just the high prices to ship overseas that should give anyone pause.

All I see online is The Complete Works of Scott Joplin and other ragtime music. I'm looking for the CD he made where he played the piano from sheet music that was used by magicians. Houdini's Asleep in the Deep may have been one of the songs.

Dick Zimmerman CD
I remember Zimmerman releasing a CD of classic scores that were used by magicians in their shows. I believe he played the piano on it. I understand he's a lion on the piano when it comes to ragtime music.
Does anyone know if it's still available? Or did I imagine this CD?

Re: ERDNASE
Alex Romanoff's second video is out and this one delves into W.E. Sanders. Nothing really new here for those who have followed the trail on Sanders, but it was fun to watch. Mentioning that Sanders had met Marshall Smith in that Chicago hotel was a stretch but Sanders wasn't far away from there at t...

Exactly--which is why the Mendoza notes the seller pointed out are useless should the calculator fail to have the program. Thanks for the clarification. And now of course there is no solution should it happen again.

The seller says, "It comes with the calculator and detailed notes from John himself how to set it all up and his routines." So even if the battery is dead, couldn't you just replace the battery and "set it all up" , which I assume means to re-program it? Sure--if you know how to...

The seller is now on his 4th attempt. The previous listings ended on 9/23, 10/3, and 10/10. He won't take no for an answer. As long as he refuses to give a refund if the calculator doesn't work, he's never going to jettison the device. eBay backs the seller 100%. If the calculator no longer has the ...

It was Lou Tannen who instigated the whole thing after Bill pointed out the trick in Hugard's. Ah, I think I've got it straight now. You might say that in foreseeing the vast potential of the routine, Lou Tannen was a prophet. That's called the prophet motive (pun intended this time; enter collecti...

The best intro is just "making magic happen" as if it usual for you to pull money out of the air or flashes of fire or whatever. Let THEM ask YOU to show them a trick, and then answer: "Tricks? I don't know any tricks. I'm into ... (pause for a quick effect) ... magic!" Great th...

Which DL(s) is/are your favorite? Lately I started doing the Dribble Double taught by Earl Nelson. You dribble the deck down into the other hand and with slight pressure near the end you can end up with just two cards. It's a bit knacky but if you've been handling a deck for 40 years, it's not hard...

Geoff Latta's version of 3 Fly that uses four soft dollars from The Long Goodbye. The best ungimmicked version of this effect, or one of the best. Card Stab is a truly dramatic effect and there are so many variations. Years ago, a magician friend taught me a version where, following the selection and "losing of the card" in the pack, the cards are placed in a paper bag (a lunch size brown bag is perfect). The bag is closed and can t...
