Re: Rubik's Cube Routine Reference

Thank you, Joe. This is all in aid of a analogous effect I'm working on using Tarot cards. There are 14 cards in a Tarot card suit (e.g., pentacles), Those cards can be arranged in 87,178,291,200 different ways, so, if for example, a spectator and a magician both mixed duplicate sets of 14 cards and...

I just received the Crowley deck and it is in bridge size, but here's the surprise: the Aquarian deck in the tin box, is also in bridge size and has white borders on the back.

Cash Card Instructions

Some time ago I decided to put props in one place and instructions in another. Bad idea. I can always find the props but never the instructions. I have what I recall was a Japanese effect, "Cash Card." At least, that's what it says on the five black plastic "envelopes" that came ...

Re: Incidents and accidents that created great magic

I think this is the essence of having a "magic eye," similar to an ear for music: you see things that appear ordinary to others, but to you they offer a chance to create a magical effect.

This one is great:

And it has all those evil connotations that Crowley is associated with. I ordered three.

Re: Incidents and accidents that created great magic

I came up with this by accident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PGcSsObEqk However, my name is never connected with the effect. Here's what happened: Mel Stover was an eccentric Canadian magician. Back in the mists of time, Howard Lyons and Bob Weill used to have a small magic convention at a hote...

Re: Tarot cards that feel like playing cards?

Several years ago, when looking for the Esoterico Tarot deck, I located some in an occult shop in Toronto in one of the seedier neighborhoods. So I popped over there and went in to find a dark, smokey cave, populated by what appeared to be Rastafarians, all looking hooded, gloomy and dangerous. Ther...

Re: Tarot cards that feel like playing cards?

Thank you Performer. Excellent information. I've used the Aquarian Tarot deck. It's a little bigger 3" X 4.75" but the cards are manageable. Also, the back design is card marker's delight since there are dizzying combinations of swirls and angles. https://www.usgamesinc.com/Aquarian-tarot-...

Rubik's Cube Routine Reference

I'm looking for a reference/inventor/info on a Rubik's Cube routine I saw.

Two Cubes are shown: the spectator mixes one, the magician mixes the other.

The magician quickly solves his cube, then scrambles it.

Kicker: the magician's scrambled Cube not matches the spectator's scrambled Cube.

Would you have a version that sorts 12 cards into 1 to 12 order? The cards are astrological signs.

You can email me directly trickmail@cogeco.ca if the Forum isn't up to it.

Reverse Faro To Order Packet

Imagine five cards in order, A, B, C, D The cards are randomly mixed, then using a sorting procedure, the packet goes back into A, B, C, D order. Use a Crayon. Or a Sharpie ultra fine point. Or a rolled up dollar bill. Don't use the usual fake coin with the flap. I recall the Camirand Academy had a routine with a quarter with a hole. I've been rereading Harry's book and it has some wonderful ideas, so if you have a Himber Wallet, or any kind of two-way wallet, it is an invaluable resource.

One of the most interesting Himber Wallet routines is Jean Merlin's, "The Little Traveler," pp. 179-181, Genii, April, 1975.

Harry Lorayne is a great writer, whether of magic books or other books, because his personality and enthusiasm explodes out of every sentence. He doesn't need an editor, all he needs is something to type on that has a working exclamation point. Along the same lines: John Northern Hilliard--a real wr...

It looks like Harry Lorayne should get the credit for the "101 Deck." I will post the results of my research shortly. Stephen Minch has been a big help in sorting this out. Clearly, Al Koran had nothing to do with the invention of the deck. More later.

For a new trick I'm working on, I am researching the origins of the "101 Deck," most famously used by Al Koran. This is a deck of four force cards running in sequence (10C JH 4S 6D 10C JH 4S 6D, etc.) but interleaved between each force card is a no-force random card (e.g. n—10C—n—JH—n—4S—n...
