Re: Legend by Thomas Baxter

The cheque is merely a presentational angle. It could as easily be actual cash in the briefcase, or no money involved at all. Kevin: Yes, for real. If I finally do put this on the market, there will be an ad here on the Genii Forum, leading to video, etc. Everyone please note: I joined this thread p...

Re: Legend by Thomas Baxter

In my mind the cheque and the cards are important and valuable objects in this effect. Hence the need for a safe container. My original thought was to use this for a television special -- to have the briefcase filled with actual money, rather than just a cheque. In that case the briefcase would be a...

Re: Legend by Thomas Baxter

Legend is a version of Any Card At Any Number that I have not yet released to the open market. The effect is that you hand someone a closed briefcase with the warning not to let it out of his possession until the performance is over. You explain that there are two things in the briefcase that will b...

Richard: Just to clarify -- I'm the one who's called the current version "The Upton/Smith Rising Cards". The tin version sold by Joe Whitlam and the wooden ones that Harry Smith made later (he died in 1978) were always just called The Upton Rising Cards. I thought Harry deserved credit for...

Re: Rising Cards

My background understanding of this effect is that it was sold in a Toronto magic shop from some time in the 19-teens on, in a metal form, with a hook underneath that the fingers engaged to hold the houlette in place. In Toronto it was sold as The Upton Rising Cards. I've no idea whether Joe Whitlam...

Thank you Steve and Andrew, for your kind words.

People are asking what type of wood this run is being made in. I've found some very rich looking walnut that I'm using. The one in the ad photo (if you click on the banner ad here) is made from walnut.

Re: Book of the Month: Stars of Magic

All of the references I've found to the original set of Stars of Magic note that it came in a red binder. The set that I have is in a BLACK binder marked with the Stars of Magic logo on the front.

Does anyone know anything about his discrepancy?

Re: Magician falls off stage

Jonathan:

The original opening for Spellbound had a reveal of the band on stage and then a black-art flash appearance of Doug in a Mephisto's Portal type of setup.

Spellbound was a very different show than The Magic Show, book-wise.

Re: Magician falls off stage

I was in the audience on the opening night of SPELLBOUND, Doug Henning's first large theater show in Toronto (later to morph into THE MAGIC SHOW in NYC). Blinded by an over-enthusiastic flash pot explosion set for his flash appearance at the very top of the show, Doug walked forward and off the stag...

Re: ThoughtControl Wallet now available

A number of people have written to ask the size of the wallet. It's a regular breast pocket wallet, measuring approx. 3.5 in. by 7 in.

A larger sized wallet is available for people in countries where the currency is larger than that here in North America.

Cheers,
