Just as an aside, I was banned from the cafe for something that was posted on another website.

Re: In defense of the Color Monte and packet tricks

Couple of points. Mr. Swiss and Mr. Racherbaumer's writing style are like the bagpipes, you either love them or hate them. You have a definite opinion regardless. Kudos to Mr. Racherbaumer at offering an insight into the "why" behind his writing style. ANYONE that has performed magic in fr...

Re: Three-Coin Vanish

In a book titled 'Stand up coin power' by Eivind Lowig there is a method of vanishing three at a time if I'm not mistaken I think it was aptly called "Three coin vanish and production". I remeber it using an idea of Ammar's for the card on ceiling but outside of that I don't know what it e...

Re: Defensive Resentment

No where did I say that you (Mark) had nothing to offer. I only state that those who tend to laud their own importance have little to offer. I don't want to sound mean or nasty here but you are not my teacher. Your assumption that I am your student is misplaced. In no way was disrespect meant to you...

Re: Defensive Resentment

Interesting thoughts on the subject. I don't like the term "defensive resentment". Although the term is original with Mark, I am not sure it adequately describes the psychological state of a spectator. Further, I am not sure why Mark chose the word "Resentment". Are the spectator...

Re: Is 'the pass' in your arsenal?

Jon are you refering to Pulp Friction or Losing Control? 'LC' is a wonderful move I haven't taken the time to really work on the timing to be honest but I definately see the value. Pulp Friction has replaced the pass in one of my routines, it fits better with the rest of the handling I developed. I ...

What is this switch called?

In "Spectacle" by Stephen Minch there is a Tommy Wonder effect called "Counterfeiter's Spellbound". On page 73, second paragraph a switch is described using a purse as a cover. No credit is given but it seems to me it is similiar in idea to the "Jinx Switch" and the swi...

Mike,
Is the second routine you mentioned the one that is in "The Art of Close-up Magic" Vol. 2?
It IS a great routine. If not then check it out. I used this routine a lot back in my early resataurant career.
Cheers,

Re: Is it all about money?

The question of the thread was "Is it all about the money?" The answer is obviously yes. It is ALWAYS about money when you are trying to make a profit. The second question raised, once inside the thread, concerns secrets. This issue is deep and there are many twists and turns. There may be...

Randy, How does what you say differ from what I said? Yes the card is really touched in the center and it is controlled. It looks like that too. I am not sure why you chose to quote the line in my post. I think you read more into it than what the intention of the post was. I'll chalk it up to misund...

Re: Asher Moves

Dave, Pulp Friction is a wonderful move. If you have a nonchalant attitude it works, or if you are a bit more proper it works. Losing Control is also a great move. Everytime I see it I know what is happening but it just messes with you. It really looks like a persontouches a card in the center of th...

It is the smugness of the whole thing that gets me. It's just sad really.
