Re: Reaching a creator to ask for permission.

We published some work on the Bart Harding stack in the Nine of Diamonds book. As I recall, Neil got the green light from Alan Shaxon to detail the stack in the book; he seemed very happy to do so.

I think you're good :)

I found the Pallbearer's entry; it's called Triangulation by L Vosburgh Lyons (who surely wins some kind of prize for Best Name).

Re: Looking for other info on 'puzzle' effect

I would suggest that Warp 9, while a fun thing to do, does not fall into the same world as the vanishing space puzzles.

There's also a version in Pallbearer's, but the exact reference escapes me at the mo.

Re: Mickey MacDougall 1951 News Clip

I heard a story about a street performer who was doing the cups somewhere, and noticed an old man watching him. After the show, the man came up and introduced himself as Michael MacDougall, and the magician immediately said 'Micky MacDougall the Card Detective?' Apparently MacDougall was made up tha...

"There is no reason to do the Palm Change quickly."

Exactly, but sometimes people coming to coin magic, particularly from cards, often try to make things faster than they need to be, usually through fear of getting caught mid move.

Re: Video of Roth's Standup Copper/Silver Classic?

One wee snippet of advice on the palm to palm transfer; you have to drop the palmed coin >before< you start moving the coin at fingertips. If you try to speed up the move by doing the two moves at the same time, you'll talk every time. This is one of those moves where 'slow is smooth, smooth is fast...

If it helps, Josh used this phase in his routine that was included in the Talk about Tricks DVD set from L&L. Setting the video vs text discussion aside for a moment, the move is explained well there. It's not massively hard to grasp, but I acknowledge that the description in the magazine is eas...

Kickstarter doesn't allow backers to 'buy into' a project in that way.

You can be open to higher level investors outside KS, but it can't be part of a reward.

Re: Help Back the Juan Tamariz Documentary

The clips in the film go back to the 70s and 80s, when Juan was pretty much the only magician on Spain's two TV channels. They are quite astonishing to see, even now.

Endless convention shows wouldn't address his legacy nearly as well, and since that's largely the point of the film...

The essential part of a routine with an Egg Bag is proving that the bag is empty. This requires all sorts of twisting, slapping, and various gyrations. None of that occurs in a Chop Cup routine, in which simply lifting the cup to show nothing underneath it proves that it's empty. I've a feeling you...

In recent times. I think Roberto Giobbi went into some detail in one of the Card College books, but from my point of view, the first column I wrote for Basic Training in 2009 broke the move down into its constituent parts, and then reassembled them into the Ghost, and later the Jordan counts. Much a...

It's interesting to see an original copy of Artanis' Bottom Deal record. I've just been transcribing a bunch of Marlo letters from 1958, and he talks about it there. Marlo was not a fan, but it's still a curious lesson (if only for the medium). It's been on the Lybrary for years if anyone is piqued :)

When I had a long tube trip home in 1986, I was sitting rolling an old 10p piece over my fingers while staring into space. I noticed a small boy, maybe eight or nine, ask his father for a 10p and started trying to roll it; in his hands it was as if I were rolling a small plate. I called him over, an...
