New Steve Forte collectibles book
I just wanted to let everyone know that Steve Forte's brand new book chronicling his entire gambling collection is going on sale September 1, 2022. It contains over 2600 color photographs and is a fantastic wealth of information for any collector or magician. You can find more information at http://...

Re: WTB Erdnase Replica Hardcover
Based on a curious hint from a friend and some online detective work, I figured out who the publisher is about 10 years ago. It is NOT Cannick. And it's true that he's not a well-known performer to most, though he IS a performer - not just a hobbyist or historian. I spoke with the actual publisher a...

The 2002 facsimile edition routinely sells for $300-400 dollars online. Just FYI.

The Spanish graphic novel "The Last Gambler" was also printed in Dutch (I believe). I know this because the Dutch version showed up at my house the other day completely out of the blue. I don't think I ordered it, so it must be a very nice gift from someone involved in its production. Than...

To those who requested a signature from Steve and didn't get one: he and I had a 20 minute conversation about this today. He did everything in his power to sign any book where the Shopify/Paypal system had logged a request to do so. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 of 1000 (roughly) copie...

Ted M,
Just read your last reply in this thread.
You're absolutely right - we got it wrong! We meant "limited supply" and said "limited edition" instead. We screwed up and I apologize to anyone that purchased early and wished they'd waited (or not purchased at all).

Re: Announcement regarding new Steve Forte book
If Steve decides to reprint, future printings will be clearly labeled "second printing" and it will only be because there is sufficient interest to justify a second run. We said "Limited Edition" because we really believed that selling 1000 copies of a $300 dollar book would take...

Bill, That article from Believer mentions a meeting I set up between Ricky and Rod the Hop. I was the "mutual friend" and Rod was the "gambler." We met at Jerry's deli and I just sat back and listened as those two went back and forth talking about jazz, boxing, cheating and magic...

I didn't read the article. Did it conclude Edward Galloway wrote Shakespeare? Has anyone searched lists of his possessions to see if he owned a copy of Shakespeare's complete works?

Re: ERDNASE
In my Erdnase: Past, Present and Future notes from a few years ago, I mentioned that Erdnase appears to have lifted the term "the slide" rather than "the glide" from Sach's Sleight of Hand . It doesn't surprise me at all that Erdnase lifted words and/or phrasings. I don't think h...

Hmmm. Didn't know that. I helped out in a small way with the poker scene from the final episode of S1 of that show. rrath1, I never said you wouldn't be able to find a sucker willing to pay. I think it's fairly obvious that who we think of as "M.D. Smith" was actually Erdnase. He hired an illustrator, got the drawings he needed and then killed him and stole his identity. Teaching himself to paint and becoming a well-known regional artist himself was a nice touch. Jason PS: If ...

Porper card trimmer for sale
I have a very nice Joe Porper card trimmer for sale. It is the die-cut model that cuts straight edges, bellies and negatives. Includes built-in corner rounder. rrath, Incidentally, if you'd been 10 or even 20% higher than going rates I probably wouldn't have even noticed. I see those all the time. Re: ERDNASE
rrath, I don't doubt you did research. But I think you ran across some other sellers' inflated prices and thought that those must be the "going rates" for that title. A much better method to determine pricing isn't to look at what people are asking for copies, but rather what they're getti...

I specifically asked Johnny about this during production. The Saran wrap production would have been in the book except that Johnny has given that particular piece to Penn and Teller exclusively. magicam,
I've been collecting Erdnase seriously for about 15 years I guess. Not really sure when I first "noticed" that I had a collection, but I bought my first edition in 2004 (I think) and that was 13 years ago.

Re: Royal road to card magic
Wow. Looks like a book published/copyrighted in 1948 just barely missed the cutoff. US copyright law appears to have changed to 28 years worth of protection in 1909, so Royal Road would have been good until the end of 1975 under its initial copyright. If it wasn't renewed in 1975, then it would have...

Magicam, While I don't think the recent acceleration in the prices will continue, I don't foresee a return to the prices of 10 years ago, when you'd get a 1905 pictorial Drake on eBay for $400 - 500. These recent price increases will top out here pretty soon (I think), but my suspicion is they'll le...
Re: ERDNASE
I have 6 different Drake HBs. Three of them are the pictorial variants like the one Potter and Potter sold.
Putting all 6 together in one group like this takes a lot of time and effort and is undoubtedly worth a premium.
First $50,000 takes 'em!

Christopher, Actually, hitting 50 in a row with a single deck only really tells you that your technique is (probably) excellent and that that particular deck is cooperating. A much more interesting test would be to take 50 different decks (they can be all the same brand and size), work them in as mu...
